Project overview
- Lead Industrial OT Security / Network Engineer supporting an industrial customer in Tyrol, Austria.
- The role will secure and establish a stable network connecting multiple gas engines and bridge operational technology (OT) with information technology (IT).
- The successful candidate will support the full project lifecycle, from concept and security architecture through simulation and implementation.
- The engagement is expected to be long term and is primarily full time. Freelance or permanent arrangements may be considered, with potential for a freelance-to-permanent transition.
- The customer already works with Birgit and an established team but urgently needs additional support in the OT security function.
Requirements
- Senior-level OT security and industrial network experience; although the customer mentioned at least three years, Birgit and Daniel agreed the role is not suitable for a junior profile and Daniel will target candidates with approximately five or more years of experience.
- Experience bridging IT and OT, including OT/IT migration and the design of secure OT network architectures.
- Experience taking projects from concept architecture through simulation and implementation.
- At least an understanding of the EU NIS2 regulation and the ability to align OT security architecture with relevant IT and cybersecurity regulations.
- Familiarity with IEC 61850, IEC 62443, and IEC 62439-3 standards and protocols relating to industrial networks, security concepts, and network redundancy.
- Background in industrial environments, critical infrastructure, control systems, microgrids, power generation, data centers, water supply, or water treatment would be highly beneficial.
- Experience in any security-critical, continuously operating environment may be relevant, particularly where systems must run 24/7.
- Strong English communication skills are required; German is not required.
- Ability to start as soon as possible is strongly preferred.
Project details
- The role is based in Tyrol, Austria, with the option to work remotely for most of the engagement.
- Approximately 20% of the time is expected on-site in Tyrol; the customer prefers one to two days per week, although this may be negotiated based on the candidate’s location, commute, and travel requirements.
- Candidates based in or willing to relocate to areas such as northern Italy or southern Germany may be suitable.
