Microsoft Office Security

Project overview

For a project in a corporate environment, an experienced specialist is sought at short notice to further develop the security architecture of locally operated Microsoft Office applications and technically implement the necessary protective measures.

The focus is on securing the Office environment, central control of security-relevant settings via Group Policies (GPO), and the introduction of uniform security standards.

Responsibilities

• Recording the current security status of the Microsoft Office applications used and identifying potential vulnerabilities
• Developing an implementable concept for improving Office security, taking existing IT structures into account
• Defining and technically implementing suitable GPO policies for central management and security of Office configurations
• Securing critical Office functions, especially VBA macros, ActiveX/COM interfaces, extensions, external content, file access, and Trust Center settings
• Comparing possible security measures, considering effectiveness, technical feasibility, and impact on existing workflows
• Accompanying the introduction from technical configuration through functional tests and pilot phases to productive deployment
• Close collaboration with the responsible teams from Information Security, Workplace/Client Management, Microsoft 365, and IT Architecture, as well as IT Management
• Preparing results in the form of technical concepts, configuration documentation, and operational documents

Requirements

Framework Conditions:

• Extensive practical experience with Microsoft Office and Microsoft 365 in complex IT landscapes
• Know-how in handling Active Directory Group Policies (GPO) and their application to Microsoft Office security policies
• Experience in securing Office clients and introducing standardized hardening specifications
• Confident handling of centrally managed security configurations and Microsoft Office policy settings
• Ability to analyze existing security measures and derive robust technical recommendations for action
• Demonstrable experience in the implementation, quality assurance, and company-wide introduction of security configurations
• Experience in coordinating technical projects and collaborating with various IT departments
