Project overview

Principal Technologist - IT Operations - £800 per day

IR35: Inside IR35

Project details

6-month contract

Hybrid - London or Manchester

The role:

An opportunity for a senior IT Operations specialist to help establish and lead a new function shaping the future of IT Operations across government and the wider public sector.

Working with senior stakeholders across government, you'll help define the long-term vision and strategy, assess the current operational landscape and identify opportunities to improve how services are delivered at scale. This includes driving significant operational transformation, shaping future approaches to service management and platforms, and influencing decisions across complex organisations where you won't always have direct control over the people and resources involved.

Essential Experience

Government or wider public-sector experience is highly desirable, although strong private-sector candidates will also be considered.

Clearance: BPSS and SC eligibility essential; active SC preferred.

Working arrangements: Hybrid working, with team days approximately three days per fortnight, primarily in London or Manchester. Candidates based in Bristol or Manchester must be flexible about travel to London. This is not a fully remote role.

Desirable: ITIL, ISO 27001, ISO 20000, Azure, AWS, ServiceNow or TOGAF qualifications.

  • At least 6 years' relevant experience in IT Operations, including leading IT Operations rather than purely operational IT support.
  • Experience delivering significant technology and operational change within complex transformation programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of IT service management, including service desk, problem management, incident response and self-service tooling.
  • Experience working with enterprise platforms and SaaS products, such as ServiceNow, Salesforce and Microsoft 365.
  • Proven ability to shape strategy, work autonomously and influence senior stakeholders across organisational boundaries.
  • Experience working with technology suppliers, contract management and agile delivery approaches.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations.
  • Start: flexible
  • Location: Manchester, Greater Manchester, GB
  • Rate: 88-100 EUR/h
