Project overview
This contract role is a Proxy Product Owner supporting a Hospital Information System (HIS/KIS/EHR) product and connecting the principal Product Owner, clinical and administrative stakeholders, and agile delivery teams. The key requirements are 12–15+ years in an Agile Product Owner, Proxy PO, Business Analyst, or Functional Consultant role; understanding of hospital workflows; and practical Agile and backlog-management skills.
Candidates should be able to turn clinical and operational needs into clear user stories and acceptance criteria, with familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards and terminology. Agile certifications, iMED expertise, and experience supporting distributed onshore/offshore teams are preferred. The role is listed in Germany and is a contract; the description refers to distributed teams but does not specify a working arrangement or exact location within Germany.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the primary Product Owner and business analysts to translate high-level product epics, clinical requirements, and roadmap objectives into actionable, testable user stories.
- Define clear, unambiguous acceptance criteria (using Gherkin/BDD scenarios where applicable) covering positive paths, exception handling, and edge cases.
- Maintain, groom, and prioritize the sprint backlog to guarantee that the agile development team consistently has well-defined work for upcoming sprints.
- Participate actively in Backlog Refinement, Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, and Retrospectives.
- Provide daily, on-the-ground functional direction and hospital domain context to software engineers, system architects, and QA teams.
- Translate intricate inpatient, outpatient, and administrative hospital workflows into software functional logic (e.g., patient admission/discharge/transfer [ADT], order entry, clinical documentation, billing, bed management, and pharmacy/medication flows).
- Address real-time day-to-day requirements queries and blockers raised by the scrum team, escalating critical architectural or scope shifts to the primary Product Owner.
- Ensure stories account for essential healthcare data standards and interoperability requirements (e.g., HL7 v2/v3, FHIR, DICOM, and IHE profiles).
- Safeguard patient privacy and healthcare regulatory standards within functional definitions (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, MDR, local hospital data compliance).
- Work closely with UX/UI designers to ensure clinical workflows minimize friction for physicians, nursing staff, and administrative personnel.
- Validate user story implementations against accepted criteria throughout the sprint lifecycle, participating in internal sprint demonstrations.
- Sign off on completed stories on behalf of or in coordination with the onshore Product Owner before release packaging.
Requirements
- 12–15+ years of professional experience in an Agile environment as a Product Owner, Proxy Product Owner, Business Analyst, or Functional Consultant
- Hospital clinical and administrative workflow knowledge, including ADT, EMR/EHR, laboratory and radiology orders, pharmacy and medication management, nursing workflows, and medical billing
- Healthcare interoperability and terminology familiarity, including HL7, FHIR, ICD-10, SNOMED CT, and LOINC
- Practical expertise with Agile methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe
- Hands-on proficiency with Jira, Confluence, or Azure DevOps
- Backlog refinement and prioritization, and translation of epics and clinical requirements into actionable user stories
- Writing clear, testable acceptance criteria, including Gherkin/BDD scenarios where applicable
- Functional story validation and collaboration with QA on end-to-end clinical scenarios and regression testing
