Job description
Research Associate position available at the Professorship for Electrical Measurement Engineering at Helmut Schmidt University, focusing on wireless integrated sensor and communication systems for industrial applications and flying platforms.
Project overview
Research Associate (m/f/d) (Pay group 13 Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVoD); 39 hours per week)
At Helmut Schmidt University/University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg (HSU/UniBw H), Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Professorship for Electrical Measurement Engineering (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Scholl), the position of a
Research Associate/
Research Associate (m/f/d) (Pay group 13 Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVoD);
39 hours per week)
is to be filled as soon as possible, for a fixed term of 3 years.
The Professorship for Electrical Measurement Engineering researches and develops wirelessly integrated sensor and communication systems for industrial applications and flying platforms. For this purpose, one of the most modern 5G standalone campus networks has been established on the HSU/UniBw H campus.
Together with our industrial cooperation partners and the responsible authorities, new approaches are being investigated on the basis of this network, in which the mobile network itself is used as a sensor and information source ("Network-as-a-Sensor/Actuator"). The focus is on the analysis and classification of communication and data streams, the recognition of characteristic behavioral patterns of applications and end devices, and the detection of anomalies in 5G networks. A special area of application is the detection and characterization of unmanned aerial systems (UAS).
Area of Responsibility:
- Conception and setup of typical industrial, IoT, and UAS application scenarios, as well as integration, configuration, and experimental investigation of various end devices, e.g., smartphones, mobile modems, embedded systems, sensors, actuators, and UAS components
- Implementation and analysis of industrial and IoT-based communication protocols, e.g., OPC UA and MQTT, as well as investigation of the communication behavior of different end device types in the 5G mobile network
- Analysis and characterization of communication and data streams in 5G mobile networks, as well as development of methods for application, end device, and UAS classification
- Development and implementation of methods for feature extraction, pattern, and anomaly detection using statistical methods as well as AI and machine learning methods
- Planning, execution, and scientific evaluation of reproducible measurements, as well as further development of the software, hardware, analysis, and test automation environment
- Opportunity for further scientific qualification (e.g., doctorate or post-doctoral qualification)
- Participation in teaching amounting to fundamentally 3.0 trimester hours per week
- Handling of general administrative tasks and academic activities in academic self-governance
