Senior CISO - Leading and Stabilizing a Security Team (Regulated Bank)

Project overview

For an established bank in Belgium, we are looking for a very senior Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to be strategically and operationally responsible for information security. The focus is on leading a twelve-person security team, ensuring business continuity, and professional communication with the Board of Directors.

Requirements

• Many years of experience as CISO, Head of Information Security, or in a comparable strategic leadership role
• Demonstrable leadership experience, ideally in banks, insurance companies, or other highly regulated environments
• Very good French skills and fluent English
• Strong communication and presentation skills up to Board level
• Profound knowledge in IAM, Security Architecture, Data Leakage Prevention, and Blue Team
• Experience with common IT security tools as well as their evaluation, selection, and implementation
• Very good skills in task management, project planning, prioritization, and implementation control
• Strong understanding of business continuity, operational risks, and cyber resilience
• Willingness to work five days on-site per week initially

Nice to have

• Experience with IT landscapes that are not cloud-based, predominantly on-premises
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements in the European banking sector
• Experience in transformation, restructuring, or change projects

• Overall responsibility for the information security and cyber resilience of a regulated bank
• Leadership, stabilization, and further development of a twelve-person security team in a challenging personnel situation
• Ensuring business continuity, including assessment of critical risks, emergency preparedness, and recovery planning
• Responsibility for the further development of Identity & Access Management, Security Architecture, Data Leakage Prevention, and Blue Team activities
• Management of follow-up on open tasks and introduction of transparent task and measure management
• Structuring and prioritizing ongoing security projects, including robust project plans, milestones, and responsibilities
• Regular reporting to the Board of Directors and communication of complex security risks tailored to the audience
• Evaluation, selection, and introduction of suitable IT security tools and optimization of the existing security landscape
• Coordination of relevant internal stakeholders and ensuring the implementation of regulatory and security-related requirements
