Profile Sought

We are looking for a senior consultant with solid experience in COBOL development on AS400 / IBM i and real analytical skills.

The candidate should be able to:

Work Environment

• Analyze functional and technical requirements expressed by business teams or project stakeholders.
• Study the existing application portfolio and understand the current COBOL processes.
• Perform impact analyses on existing applications and flows.
• Propose technical solutions adapted to the constraints of the IBM i environment.
• Write detailed technical specifications.
• Participate in the design of enhancements and the security of existing processes.
• Design, develop, and enhance COBOL programs on AS400 / IBM i.
• Perform bug fixes and corrective, preventive, and evolutionary maintenance.
• Work on batch processes and existing application processes.
• Utilize native IBM i environment tools: CLP, SEU, SDA, RLU, and Query.
• Use SQL for data access and associated processes.
• Ensure the quality, performance, reliability, and maintainability of developments.
• Prepare and perform unit tests (TU).
• Analyze and correct bugs detected during testing phases.
• Document developments, processes, and enhancements made.
• Produce the technical deliverables necessary for application maintenance and handover.
• Participate in acceptance and go-live phases according to project organization.
• Ensure traceability of modifications and compliance with delivery procedures.
• Quickly familiarize themselves with complex existing applications.
• Work autonomously on legacy applications.
• Understand the functional stakes behind technical processes.
• Propose reliable, sustainable solutions adapted to the constraints of the existing system.
• Communicate effectively with business, technical, and project teams.
• Produce quality code and documentation usable by maintenance teams.
• COBOL: excellent command, central skill for the mission.
• Native AS400 / IBM i: very good knowledge of the environment.
• Proficiency in the following tools and technologies:
• CLP (Control Language Programs)
• SEU (Source Entry Utility)
• SDA (Screen Design Aid)
• RLU (Report Layout Utility)
• Query
• SQL
• Ability to analyze and understand existing code.
• Mastery of the complete development lifecycle: analysis, design, technical specifications, development, unit testing, and documentation.
• Ability to quickly become autonomous on a legacy application portfolio.
