- Conduct periodic lifecycle and portfolio assessments of developer tools, including development environments, plugins, extensions, SDKs, and related utilities, and identify improvement opportunities and unsupported, obsolete, redundant, or high-risk tools
- Prepare implementation specifications, technical assessment reports, recommendations, and completion records for approved developer-tool installation, configuration, integration, upgrade, patching, and retirement initiatives
- Develop and document guidance for standard configurations, approved versions, dependencies, installation packages, installation procedures, and tool usage
- Assess and document developer-tool compatibility with enterprise platforms, security controls, operating systems, and development environments, including CI/CD integrations
- Investigate developer-tool incidents by assessing installation, configuration, compatibility, performance, authentication, connectivity, integration, and vendor-related issues; document root causes, remediation recommendations, and resolutions, and propose solutions or automation for recurring problems
- Assess developer-tooling requests and customer needs, evaluate formally submitted business and technical requirements, and document intake and evaluation findings, distinguishing organizational needs from team preferences and capabilities already available through existing solutions
- Evaluate requested software against defined business, productivity, strategic, architectural, interoperability, security, privacy, compliance, vendor, supportability, operational-effort, licensing, total-cost, alternative, lock-in, and lifecycle criteria
- Prepare documented decisions and recommendations for approval, conditional approval, rejection, consolidation, or replacement, including assessment of outcomes, alternatives, risks, dependencies, and implementation considerations
- Coordinate and consolidate relevant assessments from architecture, cybersecurity, data protection, legal, and procurement functions into unified recommendation packages, balancing user experience, strategic alignment, risk, operational effort, and cost
- Provide software asset and license visibility, utilization analysis, demand forecasts, renewal planning, commercial assessments, and cost reporting to inform budgeting, procurement, allocation, and renewal decisions
- Identify unused, underutilized, duplicated, or unnecessarily costly licenses and recommend reclamation, reallocation, and other license or cost optimization measures
- Manage sustainable tooling-portfolio lifecycle assessments and records covering demand evaluation, onboarding, optimization, ownership, support, and retirement, and recommend portfolio rationalization and consolidation opportunities
- Design and maintain governance processes, decision frameworks, evaluation criteria, service standards, escalation paths, and related governance artefacts for tooling assessment and management
- Maintain governance and lifecycle records for approved tools and deliver technical documentation, knowledge articles, FAQs, troubleshooting guides, onboarding materials, and self-service guidance
- Report on service quality, availability and reliability, demand, costs, risks, incidents, requests, recurring problems, changes, and tooling decisions; analyze customer feedback and trends and recommend service improvements
- Senior Consultant level, corresponding to 3–6 years of experience
- Broad experience with modern software development environments and tools
- Hands-on experience with common IDEs and code editors, including Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and IntelliJ-based products
- Very good experience with plugins, extensions, SDKs, package managers, source control, build tools, and CI/CD integrations
- Experience troubleshooting technical issues across applications, operating systems, identity, network, proxy, certificate, and access-control layers
- Familiarity with enterprise software distribution, endpoint management, and configuration management
- General experience with cybersecurity, data protection, and risks relating to open-source and third-party software
- Experience evaluating the operational and architectural implications of introducing new tools
- Experience delivering assessment reports, governance artefacts, recommendation packages, and documentation within an IT service-management environment
- Experience with technical product assessments, including ownership guidance, product governance artefacts, or developer-experience evaluations
- Experience analyzing, documenting, and evaluating formally submitted requirements against predefined assessment criteria and producing documented recommendation packages
- Experience with software license models, subscriptions, renewals, and software asset management
- Commercial experience and the ability to evaluate total cost of ownership
- Experience with vendors, procurement processes, and stakeholder engagement
- Ability to balance user experience, strategic alignment, risk, operational effort, and cost when assessing tools
- Relevant experience supported by project references
