Job description

We are looking for an experienced front-end developer to collaborate with teams, UX designers, and architects to implement a new UX design and modularize the current GUI. The role requires strong technical skills, communication, and self-management within a multidisciplinary, agile environment.

Project overview

Assignment Description

We are therefore looking for an experienced front-end developer who, together with our teams, the UX designer, and the architect, devises, tests, and implements solutions so that the new UX design can be implemented and the current GUI is broken down into, for example, web components, micro-frontends, or another form of modularization that allows for reusability.

Desired Profile

The candidate is an experienced front-end developer who is used to operating in a multidisciplinary team and is capable of contributing to the aforementioned challenge based on their technical and substantive knowledge. The candidate therefore possesses good communication skills and a solid technical background in using the required methods and techniques. The candidate must have a high degree of independence regarding the planning, execution, and monitoring of their sub-activities as part of the total scrum sprint planning.

Client

Netherlands is a maritime country. Internationally leading in the maritime and inland shipping sector. Within Rijkswaterstaat (RWS), the Central Information Provision (CIV) department is responsible for the development and availability of information within RWS, while Shipping Management (SVM) does this for shipping. The software developed within CIV-SVM by Our Release Train (ORT) supports smooth and safe shipping and is therefore developed and managed for 24x7 high availability. Our users are diverse: including (pleasure) skippers, bridge operators, lock masters, traffic controllers, and other waterway managers.

Our software ensures secure data exchange with (inter)national partners and with VHF, AIS, and process systems at, for example, locks. The information provision for shipping offers a broad, diverse, and dynamic work area with plenty of developments and challenges. The RWS ambition is to develop the waterway into a full-fledged and sustainable alternative to land transport, with good international connections and in collaboration with the logistics chain and other waterway users. This poses significant challenges to our application landscape.

For example, we provide reliable and up-to-date information 24x7 to skippers about national and European waterway corridors, including automated route planning (algorithms). This places high demands on our information provision. At the same time, there is the challenge of offering integrated and role-specific user interfaces to operational staff in national corridor control centers from which objects will be operated remotely. With fourteen scrum teams, we have built our application landscape into a (micro-)services architecture.

We work with a modern stack and, through CI/CD, are able to quickly bring these services in Docker containers to Production via Kubernetes-OTA. We work in a BizDevOps manner, collaborating closely with architects, operations, and the business. We attach great importance to the CI/CD process and are happy to spend time optimizing and automating our environment, tests, and processes. We work with, among others: Java (Springboot), Kotlin, Maven, Docker/Kubernetes, Angular, Gitlab, PostgreSQL, unit tests, and Playwright.

Because many of our users use the systems throughout their entire shift, we pay a lot of attention to the UI. To further improve this, a new UX design has been created for the systems within the shipping domain. To implement this, multiple teams will work on the same functionality. In this, we experience limitations in the current setup with one large GUI.

Requirements

The candidate has a higher professional education (HBO) or academic level of work and thinking and has at least 5 years of relevant experience with:

Additionally, the candidate has demonstrable experience with Docker/Kubernetes, Linux, and development tooling such as Gitlab CI, SonarQube, and Git.

Wishes

Experience with Playwright and Robot Framework

Additional Information

When you, as a supplier, offer a professional to us and they are placed, we will need information from you as a contracting party, including regarding the Chain Liability Act (Wet keten- en inlenersaansprakelijkheid). The 'WKA' aims to prevent abuse in the remittance of payroll taxes at all links in the chain; from supplier to client. We cover these risks for our clients by means of a blocked account, the G-account. This is an account to which a portion of the invoice amount is deposited and from which you can pay payroll taxes and VAT to the Tax Authorities.

The percentage to be deposited depends on whether you have a SNA certification (NEN-4400-1 or NEN-4400-2) or not, and whether your company is located in the Netherlands or abroad. You can apply for the G-account from the Tax Authorities. If you cannot obtain a G-account (and you can provide proof of this from the Tax Authorities), you also have the option to provide an accountant's statement (assurance report regarding personnel lending) every quarter. In this, a certified accountant (AA or RA) will issue a statement about the correctness, completeness, and timeliness of the remittances.

Please note, the costs for this statement are at your own expense.
