Project overview
Description
A global technology organization powers some of the world's most mission-critical healthcare, financial services, and data platforms. Our technology runs where reliability, security, and performance are not optional, and where the work directly supports organizations that depend on trusted data every day.
As Managed Services and SaaS continue to modernize, software-driven automation, Kubernetes, and cloud-native platform engineering are becoming core foundations for how we deliver resilient, repeatable, and scalable services globally. This role offers the opportunity to build production-grade platform software that automates complex operational workflows, improves how services are provisioned and managed, and helps shape a modern cloud-native operating model.
This is a chance to do hands-on engineering work that matters: Go software development, Kubernetes operator development, platform automation, reliability, security, and operational improvement in an environment where technical quality has meaningful business and client impact.
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Platform Engineering to serve as a Senior hands-on contributor for the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of software that automates Kubernetes-based managed services and SaaS platforms.
This role is intended for someone who can independently own complex platform software, design and implement Kubernetes-native automation, build reliable reconciliation logic, improve engineering standards, and mentor other engineers while partnering closely with Kubernetes architects, SRE teams, and cloud operations teams.
The Senior Software Engineer will help translate architecture and operational requirements into maintainable software systems, including Kubernetes Operators, controllers, custom resources, APIs, and automation components that improve reliability, consistency, security, and operational maturity across public cloud, private cloud, and on-premises infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Kubernetes Operator and Platform Software Development
Design, build, test, and maintain Kubernetes Operators and controllers using Go and Kubernetes-native development patterns.
Develop Custom Resource Definitions, reconciliation logic, status reporting, finalizers, admission webhooks, ownership models, and controller behavior that safely manage complex platform and service life cycle workflows.
Build software that automates provisioning, configuration, upgrades, scaling, recovery, and operational workflows for managed services and SaaS platforms.
Design clear, stable, and maintainable Kubernetes APIs that represent operational intent and hide unnecessary implementation complexity from users and internal teams.
Ensure controllers are idempotent, observable, reliable, secure, and resilient to partial failure, drift, retries, and changing cluster state.
Software Engineering, Testing, and Delivery
Write high-quality Go code using modern software engineering practices, including clear design, strong test coverage, structured error handling, code review, versioning, and maintainable package structure.
Develop unit, integration, and end-to-end tests for controller behavior, Kubernetes resources, and platform automation workflows.
Improve CI/CD pipelines for building, testing, validating, packaging, and releasing platform software and Kubernetes Operators.
Contribute to engineering standards for API design, controller development, code quality, test strategy, release management, and backward compatibility.
Participate in design reviews and technical decision-making for platform automation and Kubernetes-native software.
Kubernetes Platform Integration
Work with production Kubernetes platforms across public cloud, private cloud, and on-premises environments to ensure platform software integrates safely and reliably.
Partner with Kubernetes architects and platform engineers to implement approved platform patterns, reference designs, and operational standards.
Contribute to automation involving Terraform, Helm, GitOps workflows, Argo CD, Flux, and related deployment tooling where appropriate.
Understand and account for Kubernetes networking, ingress, storage, certificates, scheduling, resource constraints, workload security, and cluster life cycle concerns when designing automation.
Support platform modernization by turning repeatable operational processes into software-driven capabilities.
Security, Governance, and Compliance
Build platform software that follows secure Kubernetes patterns, including least-privilege RBAC, namespace isolation, secrets handling, network policy integration, certificate life cycle awareness, admission controls, and workload security controls.
Partner with security teams to support vulnerability remediation, audit requirements, policy-as-code practices, and secure platform automation.
Ensure Kubernetes Operators and automation components are designed with safe defaults, clear permissions, predictable behavior, and appropriate operational guardrails.
Contribute to standards that allow engineering and application teams to consume platform capabilities consistently and securely.
Reliability, Observability, and Operational Readiness
Build software that is observable, debuggable, and production-ready, including meaningful metrics, logs, events, health checks, status conditions, and failure reporting.
Support troubleshooting complex production issues where platform software, Kubernetes behavior, cloud infrastructure, or managed service workflows intersect.
Participate in post-incident reviews and drive corrective actions that improve software reliability, automation safety, and platform operability.
Design automation that reduces manual operations, improves consistency, and lowers operational risk across customer-facing environments.
Support SLO, capacity planning, upgrade safety, and reliability engineering practices in partnership with SRE and operations teams.
Mentorship and Technical Influence
Mentor software engineers, Kubernetes engineers, DevOps engineers, and application teams on Kubernetes-native development, Go engineering practices, controller patterns, and platform automation.
Provide technical leadership during design reviews, platform changes, migrations, incident reviews, and application onboarding.
Contribute to internal documentation, development guides, runbooks, implementation standards, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Help establish a stronger engineering culture around software quality, automation, reliability, security, and operational ownership.
Required Experience and Qualifications
Eight or more years of Experience in software engineering, platform engineering, cloud engineering, infrastructure automation, DevOps, or SRE roles.
Strong professional Experience developing production software in Go.
Hands-on Experience building or maintaining Kubernetes-native software, such as Operators, controllers, admission webhooks, custom resources, or platform automation components.
Strong understanding of Kubernetes APIs, Custom Resource Definitions, reconciliation loops, controller-runtime patterns, RBAC, owner references, finalizers, status conditions, events, and Kubernetes object life cycle behavior.
Proven Experience working with production Kubernetes environments supporting mission-critical or customer-facing workloads.
