Seeking a Senior Infrastructure Architect with expertise in VMware virtualization and experience with alternative solutions like Proxmox VE or Vates to lead a strategic IT infrastructure modernization project. The role involves auditing the current VMware environment, evaluating alternatives, and designing a migration strategy.
Project overview
As part of a strategic IT infrastructure modernization project, we are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Architect, an expert in VMware virtualization and with solid experience in alternative solutions such as Proxmox VE or Vates.
Following the evolution of VMware's licensing model by Broadcom, our client wishes to explore options for exiting its VMware vSphere environment and define a migration path towards a sustainable, economically controlled, and secure alternative solution.
The consultant will work within the Infrastructure Department, in collaboration with the IT Architecture, Solutions, and Security teams.
Main Missions
Expected Deliverables
- Conduct a comprehensive audit of the existing VMware infrastructure: clusters, hosts, virtual machines, storage, network, backup, tools, application dependencies, and licenses.
- Study and compare alternative solutions to VMware, notably Proxmox VE, Vates, and SUSE.
- Build a multi-criteria analysis grid integrating technical, functional, security, operational, skills, and reversibility aspects.
- Develop a comparative cost analysis (TCO) over 3 to 5 years.
- Define 2 to 3 target architecture scenarios and recommend the most suitable solution.
- Design the target architecture and define the migration strategy: waves, V2V conversion tools, failover and rollback plans.
- Prepare and scope a Proof of Concept (POC) for the chosen solution.
- Evaluate operational impacts on operating processes and Infrastructure teams.
- Support teams in skills development and knowledge transfer.
- Present recommendations to the IT Department and contribute to strategic decisions.
- Audit and status report of the existing infrastructure.
- Comparative study of solutions and TCO analysis.
- Target technical architecture document.
- Detailed and costed migration roadmap.
