Job description

A major industrial group is looking for a Senior IT/OT Solutions Architect to join their Architecture team, focusing on the evolution and modernization of their information system.

Project overview

As part of the evolution and modernization of its information system, a major industrial group is looking for a Senior IT/OT Solutions Architect to strengthen its Architecture team.

The consultant will work in a complex technical environment, composed of multiple business applications, integration platforms, IT infrastructures, and industrial systems.

The main objective of the mission is to design, formalize, and evolve application and software architectures, while ensuring their consistency with the group's strategic directions, business needs, and existing architectural standards.

The consultant will play a central role in defining target architectures, SI urbanization, technical governance, and supporting development teams.

They will also need to ensure that the designed solutions meet the requirements for security, performance, availability, maintainability, and operability.

The mission requires dual expertise:

Expertise in software and application architecture, enabling the design of modern, robust, and scalable solutions.

Governance and operational support capabilities, enabling the definition of standards, arbitration of technical choices, and support for their implementation by project teams.

The consultant will work in close collaboration with SI architects, cybersecurity architects, Product Owners, development teams, infrastructure teams, and business representatives.

MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Solutions Architecture Design

The consultant will be responsible for the design and evolution of technical and application architectures that meet the needs of various projects.

Responsibilities

Gathering and analyzing functional and non-functional requirements.

Translating business challenges into appropriate technical solutions.

Designing application and software architectures.

Defining target architectures and evolution trajectories.

Identifying the technical impacts of new solutions on the existing SI.

Ensuring consistency between applications, infrastructures, and integration systems.

Defining communication principles between different application components.

Integrating availability, performance, security, and operational constraints from the design phase.

Participating in technological choices and proposing solutions adapted to business constraints.

Formalizing technical decisions in architecture documents.

The architect must be capable of intervening in both the design of new solutions and the modernization of existing applications.

Software Architecture and Design Patterns

A major aspect of the mission concerns mastery of modern software architectures.

The consultant will need to define, promote, and support the implementation of architectural patterns adapted to project needs.

Expected Skills:

Domain-Driven Design (DDD)

Structuring applications around business domains.

Identifying functional responsibilities.

Defining Bounded Contexts.

Alignment between software architecture and business organization.

Hexagonal Architecture / Clean Architecture

Separation of responsibilities between business logic and technical components.

Application decoupling.

Improving testability and maintainability.

Defining principles for organizing software components.

Microservices and Modular Monoliths

Designing distributed architectures.

Defining application decomposition.

Identifying dependencies between services.

Choosing between modular monolithic architecture and microservices.

Managing resilience and availability issues.

Event-Driven Architecture

Designing event-driven architectures.

Managing asynchronous exchanges.

Defining communication mechanisms between applications.

Decoupling application components.

API-first and Integration

Designing API-based architectures.

Defining interface contracts.

Integrating applications into the existing SI.

Using middleware and integration mechanisms.

Defining interoperability standards.

The consultant must be able to justify architectural choices based on technical, functional, and operational constraints.

Information System Urbanization and Evolution

The consultant will participate in defining and evolving the SI map.

They will notably need to:

Analyze existing application architectures.

Identify dependencies between applications.

Participate in mapping systems and flows.

Define target architectures.

Build transition trajectories.

Identify the impacts of evolutions on existing systems.

Contribute to the rationalization and consistency of solutions.

Ensure compliance with the group's urbanization guidelines.

Participate in defining integration and interoperability standards.

The goal is to ensure that each new solution fits into a coherent and sustainable global architecture.

Architecture Governance and Technical Validation

The consultant will actively contribute to architecture governance.

They will participate in technical validation processes and contribute to their improvement.

Participating in architecture committees and validation bodies.

Preparing and presenting architecture documents.

Justifying technical choices to various stakeholders.

Analyzing the risks and impacts of proposed solutions.

Defining and evolving technical standards.

Contributing to architecture repositories.

Participating in application change management processes.

Identifying deviations from existing standards.

Proposing recommendations and improvement plans.

Ensuring architectural consistency across different projects.

Experience in Design Authority, architecture committee, or Architecture Review Board is particularly sought after.

CI/CD, DevOps, and Industrialization

The consultant will contribute to defining continuous integration and deployment principles.

They will support teams in industrializing development and delivery processes.

Defining CI/CD pipeline architecture principles.

Participating in tool and method choices.

Integrating quality requirements into development processes.

Supporting teams in automating deployments.

Ensuring consistency between application architecture and execution environment.

Considering operational and monitoring constraints.

Contributing to pipeline security.

Promoting DevOps best practices.

Expected Technologies and Tools:

GitLab.

ArgoCD.

Jira.

CI/CD pipelines.

GitOps principles.

Kubernetes.

Containerization.

The consultant must have a good understanding of Kubernetes environments and the constraints associated with containerized applications.

They are not expected to be exclusively specialized in Kubernetes administration, but they must be able to integrate these constraints into their architectural choices.

Data Architecture and Databases

The consultant must master the principles of integrating databases into application architectures.

In-depth knowledge required:

Oracle.

PostgreSQL.

They must notably be able to:

Participate in architectural choices involving DBMS.

Define data access principles.

Identify performance and availability constraints.

Ensure consistency between application components and databases.

Consider integrity, security, and operational issues.

Support teams in data-related technical choices.

This is not a database administration mission, but an architectural responsibility requiring in-depth knowledge of both environments.

Application Cybersecurity and Shift Left Approach

Security must be integrated from the initial design phases.

The consultant will work in collaboration with cybersecurity architects to ensure solutions comply with group requirements.

Integrating security requirements into architectures.

Identifying application risks.

Participating in defining security mechanisms for exchanges.

Contributing to API and interface security.

Integrating cybersecurity requirements into User Stories.

Participating in securing CI/CD pipelines.

Considering infrastructure code security.

Supporting teams in applying security best practices.

A good understanding of application security principles and the Shift Left Security approach is expected.

Supporting Agile Teams and Product Owners

The consultant will work directly with project teams and development squads.

They will act as a technical referent and support the implementation of defined architectures.

With Product Owners:

Participating in requirements scoping.

Identifying functional and non-functional requirements.

Contributing to the definition and prioritization of the technical backlog.

Identifying technical enablers.

Participating in technical debt management.

Supporting trade-offs between business needs and technical constraints.

With Developers:

Participating in design reviews.

Supporting technical choices.

Conducting pair-design sessions.

Promoting architectural standards.

Contributing to team skill development.
