Senior Java Developer - Streaming Platforms

Outside IR35 | Circa £400 per day | 6 month contract initially | 2 days on site in Isleworth, London

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a large-scale streaming technology environment, working on Back End services supporting live streaming and video-on-demand platforms used by millions of customers.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Java development, hands-on testing experience and importantly, previous experience working within the media, broadcasting or video streaming industry.

This is an opportunity to work on high-traffic, cloud-based systems, contributing to the development, performance and reliability of business-critical streaming services.

• Design, develop and maintain scalable Back End services and RESTful APIs using Java 21+ and Spring Boot.
• Develop and enhance Back End systems supporting live streaming and video-on-demand applications.
• Take a hands-on approach to both software development and testing, ensuring code quality, performance and reliability.
• Build and maintain cloud-native applications, primarily within AWS environments.
• Develop and support microservices, event-driven architectures and asynchronous messaging solutions.
• Work with technologies including Kafka, Redis, Cassandra/AWS Keyspaces and PostgreSQL.
• Investigate and resolve production incidents, troubleshoot complex issues and improve system resilience.
• Contribute to technical design decisions, code reviews and continuous engineering improvements.
• Implement automated testing, including unit, integration and non-functional testing.
• Explore and implement AI-driven solutions and use AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering efficiency.
• Collaborate with developers, architects and wider engineering teams to deliver scalable, reliable solutions.
• Java 21+ and Spring Boot: Strong commercial experience developing scalable Back End applications.
• Streaming Domain Experience: Previous experience working on video streaming, broadcasting, OTT or video-on-demand platforms, ideally within organisations such as BBC, Sky, ITV, DAZN or similar.
• Development & Testing: Proven hands-on experience across both software development and automated testing.
• Cloud Technologies: Strong AWS experience preferred, although candidates with Azure or GCP experience will also be considered.
• Microservices & APIs: Experience designing and developing distributed systems, microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Event-Driven Architecture: Experience with Kafka or similar asynchronous messaging technologies.
• Databases: Experience with Redis, Cassandra, AWS Keyspaces, PostgreSQL or equivalent technologies.
• AI Implementation: Practical experience using AI within software development projects, including implementing AI-powered solutions or capabilities.
• CI/CD & Containers: Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and modern software delivery pipelines.
• Troubleshooting: Strong debugging, problem-solving and production support experience.
• Experience supporting large-scale live streaming or video-on-demand services.
• Familiarity with streaming technologies, content delivery workflows or media platform architecture.
• Observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus and Grafana.
• Experience with GitHub Actions and cloud-native infrastructure.
• Exposure to AI/ML technologies such as AWS SageMaker, Azure AI or Gemini.
• Experience with performance, resilience, security and other non-functional testing requirements.
