Senior Java Developer - Spring boot/Microservices/AI

Project overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer with strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot and Microservices to lead development within a modern, AI-driven engineering environment.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of software engineering quality, using AI to drive Software Design and Development (SDD), improve coding standards and deliver robust, scalable solutions.

This is a hands-on technical role requiring someone who can take ownership of development, infrastructure configuration and database setup, while establishing high-quality engineering practices.

We are looking for a technically strong developer who can lead by example, rather than simply deliver development tasks. You should be comfortable taking ownership of the development environment, using AI effectively throughout the software lifecycle and ensuring high-quality engineering standards.

• Lead the development of Java-based microservices using Spring Boot.
• Use AI-driven tools and approaches to support Software Design and Development (SDD).
• Establish and maintain high standards of code quality, testing and engineering best practices.
• Set up and configure development pipelines within Jules.
• Understand and work with FID environments and configurations.
• Configure and manage GKP instances.
• Set up, configure and manage databases, particularly MongoDB and CockroachDB.
• Drive efficient development practices through automation and AI-assisted engineering.
• Take ownership of technical delivery, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable and maintainable.
• Strong commercial experience with Java.
• Extensive experience with Spring Boot and Microservices architecture.
• Experience working with MongoDB and/or CockroachDB.
• Experience setting up and configuring databases.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and development environments.
• Experience using AI tools to drive SDD and improve development quality.
• Strong understanding of code quality, software design principles, testing and engineering standards.
• Experience with FID environments, Jules pipelines and GKP instances.

Requirements

• Must be available to work 5 days per week onsite in Glasgow.
• £475 per day Inside IR35
• Glasgow-based candidates or those willing to commute/relocate.
• Strong hands-on Java, Spring Boot and Microservices experience is essential.
