Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Java Full Stack Developer to join a major software engineering programme within the UK Public Sector.

The role involves designing, developing and enhancing scalable software applications using Java, Spring Boot and modern development frameworks. You will work within an Agile environment, collaborating with technical teams to deliver reliable, high-performing solutions supporting critical public sector services.

• Design, develop and maintain custom software applications using Java Full Stack technologies.
• Develop and enhance Back End services and application components using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build scalable, reliable and maintainable software solutions aligned with business and technical requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software components across multiple systems and applications.
• Contribute to technical architecture, application design and key engineering decisions.
• Identify opportunities to optimise existing applications, improving performance, scalability and reliability.
• Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, technical discussions and delivery.
• Conduct code reviews, troubleshoot technical issues and maintain software development standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior developers.
• Work closely with stakeholders and delivery teams to support business transformation initiatives.
• Advanced proficiency in Java Full Stack Development.
• Expertise in Java development, including application design, coding and integration.
• Experience developing enterprise applications using Spring Boot.
• Knowledge of modern software development frameworks and Agile methodologies.
• Experience designing and implementing scalable software applications.
• Understanding of software architecture, system integration and application performance optimisation.
• Experience contributing to technical decisions and collaborating across multiple engineering teams.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex software issues and implement effective solutions.
• Experience with code reviews, mentoring and software engineering best practices.
• Previous experience delivering software solutions within UK Government, Public Sector or Public Safety environments.
• Exposure to large-scale business transformation programmes.
• Experience supporting technical delivery and coordinating activities across multiple teams.
• Knowledge of account delivery management and stakeholder engagement.
