Senior Designer / Product Development Engineer with Series and Tooling Experience

Project overview

For a client in the Zurich area, we are looking for a Senior Designer / Product Development Engineer (m/f/d) with a focus on series production and toolmaking.

The Tasks

As a Senior Designer / Product Development Engineer, you will play a central role in the further development of an existing product. The basic concepts are already in place. The focus is on transferring the design into a manufacturable and series-ready solution.

You will accompany the product development from detailed design through tool-oriented design to the planned tool release after approximately three to three and a half months. You will work closely with toolmakers, suppliers, and occasionally with production.

Responsibilities

Design and detailed elaboration of components and assemblies in CATIA V6

Further development of an existing product, considering technical, functional, and manufacturing requirements

Transfer of existing concepts into robust and series-capable solutions

Tool-oriented design of plastic components, considering the requirements of the injection molding process

Manufacturing-oriented design of sheet metal components

Development of a new design solution for a currently open task in the area of sheet metal design

Optimization of existing designs regarding manufacturability, assembly, quality, and cost-effectiveness

Consideration of tolerances and tolerance chains during the design phase

Correct and forward-looking modeling of components, considering later manufacturing and tooling requirements

Coordination of technical details with toolmakers, suppliers, and internal contacts

Support during tool release as well as subsequent optimization and post-processing measures until series readiness

Requirements

Several years of professional experience in mechanical design and product development

Very good CAD skills, ideally in CATIA V6

Alternatively, sound experience with CATIA V5

Experience in the design of plastic components

Knowledge of tool-oriented design and the injection molding environment

Understanding of toolmaking as well as the possibilities and limitations of plastic-oriented designs

Experience in the design and manufacturing-oriented design of sheet metal components

Experience in developing design solutions in the sheet metal field

Experience in transferring designs to series production

Knowledge of tolerance management, tolerances, and tolerance chains

Fluent German language skills
