Experienced Senior Microsoft SQL Server Administrator needed to support an existing operations team in managing and optimizing a highly standardized Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure. The role is initially for six months with the possibility of working predominantly remotely.
Project overview
For our client, we are looking for an experienced Senior Microsoft SQL Server Administrator to support the existing operations team as soon as possible. As part of the project, you will be responsible for the support and optimization of a highly standardized Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure with around 220 database servers. The assignment is initially planned for six months and offers the possibility of working predominantly remotely.
Responsibilities
The profile sought
- Administration, monitoring, and ensuring the stable operation of around 220 Microsoft SQL Servers (versions 2019, 2022, and 2025)
- Support and administration of Always On Availability Groups (AO Clusters) and Windows Failover Clusters
- Operation and optimization of a database infrastructure predominantly virtualized under VMware ESXi
- Automation of recurring operational tasks using PowerShell
- Implementation and further development of backup and recovery concepts
- Performance optimization as well as analysis and tuning of SQL queries
- Handling of incidents, problems, and changes according to ITIL standards
- Support in incident management and on-call duty
- Creation and maintenance of audit-proof operational documentation
- Ensuring compliance with security and hardening specifications according to BSI-Grundschutz and ISO 27001
- Support in operational handovers and the continuous optimization of standardized operational processes
- Senior knowledge in Microsoft SQL Server 2019–2025
- Experience with Always On Availability Groups
- Experience with Windows Clustering
- Knowledge in PowerShell automation and platform operation
- Experience with backup and recovery concepts
- Sound knowledge in performance and query tuning
- Experience in ITIL-based IT operations
- Experience in technical documentation and operational handovers
- Knowledge in the area of BSI-Grundschutz and ISO 27001
- Knowledge of highly standardized operational processes, multi-tenancy, hardening specifications, and audit-proof documentation
- Willingness to participate in on-call duties
