Seeking a skilled SQL Server expert for performance and architecture optimization of a business-critical infrastructure supporting a warehouse management system. The role involves hands-on tuning, architectural consultation, and performance measurement.

Project Context & Objective
For our client's business-critical infrastructure, we are urgently seeking a seasoned SQL Server expert for performance and architecture optimization. The system forms the database backbone of a mature warehouse management system.
The goal is to factually uncover existing bottlenecks, achieve noticeable performance leaps, and secure the system architecture for the future. The client does not plan to fill a permanent in-house role – instead, we are looking for a pragmatic expert who acts as a strategic sparring partner and implementer.
Responsibilities
Data-driven Performance Analysis: Determining the status quo based on hard metrics (baseline measurement, wait stats, deadlocks, query performance) for precise bottleneck localization.
Hands-on Optimization: Targeted tuning of T-SQL queries, indexes, and server configurations for direct performance improvement.
Architecture & Environment Consulting: Technical assessment of whether and how the current single-database structure should be migrated to a clean multi-system landscape (test, validation, and production databases) – including a pragmatic cost-benefit analysis of licensing models.
Success Measurement: Validation of implemented measures through before-and-after measurements and derivation of best practices.
Interface Work: Technical exchange at eye level with the internal project team and the external software vendor of the application.
Requirements
Demonstrable, multi-year practical experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting of complex MS SQL Server environments.
High methodological competence in root cause analysis: You work based on numbers, data, and facts, not assumptions.
Sound knowledge in the design and sizing of database infrastructures (architecture, staging, licensing aspects).
Hands-on mentality: You can not only analyze and advise but also directly implement the measures technically.
Very good German language skills, spoken and written, for coordination with management and external partners.
Nice to have
Experience in the area of ERP, logistics, or warehouse management systems
