Senior Oracle Database Engineer | Oracle Database@AWS | ExaCC | Exadata | Migration

For a new client in Bern, we are looking for an experienced Senior Oracle Database Engineer with Lead Engineering experience for the setup, introduction, and operation of a new Oracle Database@AWS and Exadata environment.

As part of a datacenter exit project, an existing OnPrem Oracle ExaCC platform will be replaced. We are looking for a personality who will co-shape the setup of the new target platform technically and professionally, transfer existing ExaCC know-how into a hybrid Oracle@AWS operating model, and optionally lead the migration of existing workloads.

Role: Senior Oracle Database Engineer

• Lead Engineering for the setup of the Oracle Database@AWS and Exadata target platform
• Co-design of architecture, engineering, security, operation, and operational handover
• Transfer of existing OnPrem ExaCC experiences into a hybrid Oracle@AWS operating model
• Provisioning and configuration of central Oracle components such as Oracle Linux, VM Cluster, Grid Infrastructure, ASM, RAC, Data Guard, CDB/PDB, and Patching
• Ensuring Backup, Restore, Disaster Recovery, Monitoring, Performance, Security, and Compliance
• Implementation of security requirements such as Hardening, TDE, Roles and Authorization Concepts, and CIS Benchmarks
• Resource and capacity management on Oracle@AWS platforms including Scaling, Storage, CPU, Memory, Performance, and Cost Transparency
• Support with licensing, BYOL, UCC, and operating model questions together with Architecture, Procurement, License Management, and Providers
• Integration into ITSM, Security, Monitoring, Logging, Alerting, and SIEM processes
• Management of Oracle Service Requests including workarounds, root cause analyses, and vendor recommendations
• Creation and quality assurance of technical concepts, operational documentation, runbooks, migration plans, and decision bases
• Support with knowledge transfer, enablement, and operational handover to the internal database team
• Optional planning and execution of the migration of existing OnPrem Oracle and ExaCC workloads to Oracle Database@AWS
• Several years of experience as a Senior Oracle Database Engineer, ideally in a Lead Engineer role or technical project management role
• Very good knowledge in operating Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer, especially in OnPrem ExaCC environments
• Very good knowledge in Oracle RDBMS, RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN, Multitenant Architecture, CDB/PDB, TDE, and Performance Tuning
• Experience with Oracle Linux, Grid Infrastructure, Database and GI Patching, Oracle Homes, VM Clusters, and Exadata Lifecycle Management
• Experience with Oracle Database@AWS, OCI, or comparable Oracle Multicloud or Hybrid Cloud Architectures is an advantage
• Experience with migrations of OnPrem Oracle databases or Exadata workloads to cloud-adjacent or Multicloud target platforms
• Knowledge of Zero Downtime Migration, Data Guard, RMAN, or comparable migration methods is an advantage
• Experience with Oracle Enterprise Manager, APEX, ZFS Storage Appliance, Oracle Database Appliance, ODAcc, or Oracle Base Database Service on Cloud@Customer is an advantage
• Good knowledge in Security, Hardening, Audit, Roles and Authorization Concepts, Encryption, Backup and Restore, Disaster Recovery, and regulatory requirements
• Understanding of ITIL-oriented operational processes, Change Management, Incident Management, Problem Management, and Service Level-oriented operation
• Cloud know-how in AWS and/or Azure and experience with hybrid operating models is an advantage
• Experience with Terraform for building environments on AWS is an advantage
• Very good English skills, German skills are an advantage
• Analytical, structured, and reliable working method in a demanding enterprise environment
• Ability to prepare complex technical issues understandably and communicate them appropriately to the audience
• Experience in collaborating with Architecture, Security, Operations, Providers, Suppliers, and internal customers
• Willingness for knowledge transfer and active support of the existing database team
