Senior Platform Engineer | On-Premise Developer Platform at Alliander in Arnhem!

Build strategic on-premise platform services, increase the continuity of critical development facilities, and help our developers work safely and independently.

This is a position for 32 to 40 hours.

In the coming years, we will invest in strategic on-premise platform services. With these, we will increase the continuity of critical development facilities, better meet security and compliance requirements, and reduce our dependence on external SaaS vendors.

That is why we are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer with experience in Linux, automation, and on-premise infrastructure. Someone who not only manages existing systems but also designs, implements, and operationalizes new platform services.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will work on realizing new on-premise capabilities that will be used by other teams within Alliander. Your first assignment is to design and implement an on-premise Git solution. After that, you will contribute to the further expansion of our Developer platform, including the realization of a self-hosted package registry.

You will do that at our business unit Digitalization. You will end up in Team DevX, part of Technical Platforms within Digitalization. We are building Alliander's developer platform. In doing so, we focus on issues related to developer tooling, platform engineering, automation, and developer experience. Where necessary, we build solutions ourselves, integrate existing tooling, and ensure that technical teams can focus on developing value instead of managing ancillary matters.

You don't have to be a specialist in every area yet. We are primarily looking for an experienced platform engineer with a solid foundation in Linux, automation, and on-premise infrastructure, who quickly masters new technologies and enjoys collaborating with software engineers, security specialists, and other platform teams.

What makes this position interesting?

Many important design choices still need to be made. You are not working from a fully defined blueprint but actively help determine what the new facilities will look like, how they will be set up securely and manageably, and how they integrate with the existing developer platform. This gives you visible influence on the technical direction and on the daily experience of development teams within Alliander from the very beginning.

The application procedure consists of two interviews. The first interview is an introduction to see if there is a click. Prior to the second interview, you will receive a short technical assessment to perform at home with your own tools. During the second interview, we will go into depth about the assessment.

Assignment details

• designing, realizing, and managing a robust on-premise Git solution;
• researching, selecting, and implementing a self-hosted package registry;
• setting up and managing Linux-based platform environments on Red Hat Enterprise Linux;
• automating configuration, deployment, and lifecycle management with Ansible and Terraform;
• designing monitoring, backup, recovery, and security provisions;
• making technical choices regarding availability, continuity, compliance, and security;
• integrating new platform services into Alliander's broader developer platform, alongside central developer services and tooling such as GitHub, Backstage, and Artifactory;
• gathering needs from development teams and translating them into usable, secure, and manageable platform services.
• HBO+ work and thinking level in IT or a related field;
• demonstrable experience in designing, automating, and managing on-premise platform services;
• experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or comparable enterprise Linux environments;
• experience with Ansible;
• experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code;
• experience with on-premise infrastructure;
• the ability to make independent technical choices and reduce complex issues to workable solutions;
• experience with Git platforms such as GitLab, Forgejo, or comparable solutions;
• experience with package registries and artifact management.

Approximately 12 months, with an option to extend (administrative end date October 1, 2027)

Hours: 32–40 hours per week

Arnhem, 2 days per week at the office (Tuesday Parktoren and Wednesday Bellevue)

Maximum € 80,- per hour
