Senior PMO / Project Management (m/f/d) – Payment Transactions / Bank – from 01.2027 – 12 Months+ // remote & on-site FFM

For a project in the banking / payment transactions sector, we are looking for an experienced freelance Senior PMO expert (m/f/d).

The role is designed as "PMO+": You will independently support project management in planning, coordination, and control, identify needs for action early on, and ensure that decisions are prepared and measures are consistently tracked.

Responsibilities

• Creation, maintenance, and monitoring of integrated project planning, including milestones, resources, work packages, and dependencies
• Cross-functional coordination of sub-projects and workstreams, as well as alignment between business departments, IT, and other project stakeholders
• Support for project management in prioritizing tasks, assessing bottlenecks, and deriving concrete control measures
• Development and enhancement of governance, reporting, and controlling processes, as well as ensuring consistent and meaningful planning and status information
• Monitoring of progress, resources, and budget, as well as tracking project risks, issues, decisions, and measures
• Preparation and moderation of planning workshops, status meetings, and reviews
• Creation of management presentations, decision proposals, and documents for steering committees
• Support in cross-functional test and release coordination, especially in aligning dates, interfaces, and dependencies between business departments and IT

Requirements

• Experience as Senior PMO, PMO Lead, or Project Manager in complex projects and programs at banks or payment service providers
• Demonstrable experience in independent project management as well as in establishing or further developing PMO structures
• Project experience in payment transactions or comparable banking IT and transformation projects
• Confident use of integrated project planning, resource and budget monitoring, management reporting, as well as risk and dependency management
• Experience in collaborating with project management, business departments, IT, and senior management
• Practical experience with common planning and reporting tools, such as MS Project, Jira, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Strong analytical skills, ability to quickly familiarize yourself with new topics, and the capacity to present complex issues understandably and in a decision-oriented manner
• Very good German and good English language skills

Work Model: approx. 4 days remote and approx. 1 day per week on-site in Frankfurt am Main (occasional on-sites in the greater Cologne area possible)
