Senior PostgreSQL Database Architect / Database Platform Engineer (m/f/d) - 95% Remote (DE)

Project overview

Conception, implementation, and operation of highly available, distributed, and security-compliant PostgreSQL database architectures. The focus is on enterprise database platforms, automation, disaster recovery, cloud and container environments, as well as the implementation of regulatory and technical security requirements.

• Development and documentation of technical service architectures, solution concepts, and implementation approaches in the database environment
• Identification and implementation of automation potential, especially for updates, deployments, and monitoring
• Creation and maintenance of technical concepts, installation documentation, and operating manuals
• Integration of new and further developed solutions into existing release, patch, and operating processes
• Analysis and optimization of technical workflows and directory service processes, including Active Directory
• Modeling and documentation of technical architectures and business processes using suitable enterprise architecture and process modeling tools
• Evaluation of new database technologies and solutions through structured tests in suitable test environments
• Creation of test plans, execution of technical tests, and documentation of results
• Support for the introduction of new solutions into productive operation as well as validation of technical implementation concepts
• Analysis and resolution of technical incidents as well as participation in incident, problem, and change management
• Consideration of relevant requirements for information security, IT service management, and technical standards

Requirements

Minimum requirement for all technical requirements listed below: at least 5 years of relevant professional experience each.

• Experience with IT security standards, especially BSI IT-Grundschutz, as well as with security-oriented PostgreSQL database architectures and relevant BSI recommendations.
• Experience in creating technical architecture concepts, system specifications, proof-of-concept documentation, operational and support documentation, as well as migration concepts including architecture modeling with ARIS and Alfabet.
• Experience in integration, configuration, and application of PostgreSQL extensions, especially PostGIS, TimescaleDB, pgvector, and PGcrypto.
• Experience with Foreign Data Wrappers (FDW) for integrating heterogeneous data sources as well as with PostgreSQL backup and recovery solutions, especially pgBackRest and Barman.
• Experience with CIS Benchmarks for PostgreSQL as well as with data protection-compliant database design, considering GDPR.
• Experience with regulatory requirements, especially NIS 2 and DORA, and their consideration in the design and implementation of database architectures.
• Experience in designing PostgreSQL-based architectures for sovereign cloud environments.
• Experience in designing and implementing PostgreSQL in Kubernetes and container environments, especially Red Hat OpenShift and stateful applications.
• Experience with centralized secrets management solutions, especially HashiCorp Vault and CyberArk Conjur.
• Experience in integrating PostgreSQL with Apache Kafka and Debezium for Change Data Capture procedures as well as in orchestrating data pipelines with Apache Airflow.
• Experience in designing, implementing, and operating PostgreSQL monitoring with Checkmk as well as in infrastructure automation with Ansible.
• Experience with GitOps-based deployment of PostgreSQL configurations using Argo CD or Flux.
• Experience in integrating PostgreSQL services into internal developer platforms, especially based on Backstage.
• Experience in performance optimization of PostgreSQL, especially in query analysis, indexing, partitioning, and parallel processing.
• Experience in designing, implementing, and operating EDB Postgres Advanced Server, especially regarding Oracle compatibility.
• Experience in designing and implementing Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) solutions based on PostgreSQL.
