Senior Python and Cloud Software Engineer

Project overview

As part of an ambitious digitalization project, we are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to take on the technical leadership of an agile development team. The team is responsible for the conception, development, and operation of critical connectivity solutions, from reliable technical data acquisition through resource management to service orchestration and asset management of the physical and logical network infrastructure.

Your expertise in modern cloud technologies, microservice architectures, and Python-based backend solutions is needed to develop high-performance, scalable systems while technically leading the team, establishing best practices, and ensuring sustainable software quality.

Responsibilities

Technical leadership and mentoring of an agile development team (without disciplinary responsibility); establishing best practices in architecture, clean code, and test automation. Development of modern backend solutions with Python and FastAPI; conception and implementation of cloud-native microservice architectures. Design, development, and operation of event-driven applications with FastStream and Apache Kafka, as well as high-performance REST APIs and API management concepts. Code reviews, architectural decisions, and ensuring high quality standards; active participation in shaping the target architecture.

Deployment of containerized applications on OpenShift and Kubernetes; building and further developing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes. Close collaboration with Product Owners, System Architects, and adjacent development teams.

Requirements

At least 8 years of professional software development experience with several years in a Senior Developer, Technical Lead, or Lead Engineer role. Excellent knowledge of Python and modern frameworks (especially FastAPI, FastStream); profound experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures. Several years of practical experience in microservice development, Kubernetes, OpenShift, as well as API management and REST API design. Proven expertise in software architecture, Clean Architecture, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), and test automation. Confident use of Git and modern CI/CD processes.

Experience in agile methods (Scrum, Kanban). Very good German language skills. Good English language skills.

Project details

2-3 days on-site in Bern, rest remote within Switzerland. Start date: November 2026.
