• Lead service design activities across complex digital and business services
• Analyse and map end-to-end user journeys, service ecosystems, channels and touchpoints
• Translate user, business and policy needs into effective service designs
• Design services for vulnerable users and those with accessibility requirements
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement and drive consensus across complex environments
• Advocate for user-centred design and GDS best practice within multidisciplinary teams
• Develop service blueprints, operating models and future-state service designs
• Mentor and support other designers, contributing to communities of practice
• Strong Senior Service Design experience within the UK public sector
• Proven experience working in complex, policy-driven environments
• Experience designing services for vulnerable users and accessibility-focused services
• Ability to clearly articulate service design approaches, methods and decision-making
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including influencing senior and challenging stakeholders
• Experience working within multidisciplinary agile delivery teams
• Strong understanding of GDS standards and user-centred design principles
• SC clearance essential
• Experience working on high-profile or politically sensitive services
• Previous experience within Central Government or similar organisations
• Familiarity with service architecture, operating model design and organisational change initiatives

The role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Service Designer to lead service design activities across large-scale, complex public sector programmes. Working within sensitive policy areas, you will help shape end-to-end services that balance user needs, business objectives, and strategic outcomes, while championing user-centred design principles throughout delivery.
