Senior System Engineer (Open Source / Linux / DevOps)

Description

For a long-term digitalization project in a security-critical environment, we are looking for an experienced Senior System Engineer with a focus on Open Source, Linux, and DevOps.

In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, integration, and further development of modern open-source applications within a highly available and security-relevant private cloud infrastructure. You will work closely with Product Owners, Development, Network, Security, and DevSecOps teams.

• Installation, integration, and configuration of applications on Linux servers, especially Red Hat Enterprise Linux
• Deployment and operation of applications on Kubernetes and OpenShift platforms
• Integration of existing systems and services, for example:
• LDAP and Single Sign-on
• Active Directory
• Mail systems
• Backup solutions
• Reverse Proxies
• Monitoring and logging systems
• Automation of installation, configuration, and operational processes, especially with Ansible
• Support for operational and business departments in analyzing and resolving technical issues
• Further development of the existing infrastructure in the areas of redundancy, stability, automation, logging, and monitoring
• Development and further development of scripts and internal tools with Python and Shell
• Implementation of GitOps, Infrastructure-as-Code, and Everything-as-Code approaches
• Participation in building standardized, reproducible, and secure operational processes
• Creation and maintenance of technical documentation, user manuals, and operating instructions
• Conducting training sessions and introducing new tools and solutions
• Close collaboration with Product Owners, development teams, and network, security, and DevSecOps specialists
• Continuous further development of the deployed open-source solutions

Requirements

• Completed technical basic training, for example as an IT specialist EFZ
• Further education at HF or FH level in computer science is an advantage
• Several years of practical experience in Linux system administration
• Very good knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux
• In-depth experience with container orchestration, especially Kubernetes
• Practical experience with OpenShift is a great advantage
• Experience in the implementation and integration of common open-source applications
• Good knowledge of network technologies and security concepts
• Experience with web servers such as Apache or Nginx
• Knowledge of relational databases such as MariaDB, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
• Confident use of automation and configuration management tools, especially Ansible
• Experience in automating infrastructure and operational processes
• Good knowledge in the areas of GitOps, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code
• Experience in script and tool development with Python and Shell
• Very good German language skills at C2 level
• Good to very good English language skills at C1 level
