Job Description:

This role sits within the M365 Delivery Portfolio and is responsible for leading the information architecture required to support the Defra Group Sensitivity Labels and Data Loss Prevention programme across Microsoft 365.

The role will work closely with business stakeholders, Security, Knowledge and Information Management, Information Governance, Product Owners, Service Owners, architects and delivery teams to define a consistent information model for Defra Group and its Arm's Length Bodies. It will translate policy, governance and business needs into practical information structures that users can understand and apply consistently.

The postholder will own the classification framework, information architecture principles, metadata standards, taxonomy structures and information-handling requirements that underpin sensitivity labels and Data Loss Prevention policies. The role will align these with the Government Security Classifications Policy, Defra requirements and wider information governance obligations.

The role is delivery focused and will provide information architecture leadership throughout mobilisation, proofs of concept, enterprise rollout and transition to live service. Working with Solution Architects, Technical Architects, Security and information management professionals, the postholder will ensure technical controls are based on clear business meaning, proportionate governance and sustainable practices.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the information architecture workstream from discovery through implementation and transition to live service.

Define and maintain the target information architecture, classification framework, taxonomy and metadata standards for Microsoft 365 information protection.

Define information requirements that inform Microsoft Purview sensitivity label and Data Loss Prevention policy design.

Review information flows, collaboration patterns, sharing scenarios and user journeys across email, files and relevant collaboration services.

Ensure information structures support proportionate protection, effective collaboration, need-to-know and need-to-share principles.

Support proofs of concept through information modelling, user feedback analysis, usability assessment and refinement of classification approaches.

Identify information governance risks, gaps, dependencies and design decisions requiring business or governance agreement.

Work with Solution Architects, Technical Architects and engineers so information requirements are reflected accurately in technical designs, without owning Microsoft Purview configuration.
