Assignment description

Senior Test Engineer

About the department

We are looking for a Senior Test Engineer with demonstrable knowledge and experience in test automation, for the KV Enabling team within the Small Consumption (KV) value chain of Enexis Digital. You will work within the team with another test engineer, two platform engineers, and a requirements engineer.

Together, you will be responsible for enabling the DevOps teams within the Small Consumption value chain to improve their quality and testing by, among other things, applying requirements management, setting up CI/CD pipelines including the associated quality gates, setting up and maintaining automated tests, etc.

From this enabling team, you will support the test engineers within the DevOps teams and help them grow in their test maturity, so that they can eventually independently develop, maintain, and execute their tests manually and automatically. The teams work with test automation tools such as Tricentis Tosca and Robot Framework. The DevOps teams are responsible for the processes and systems around small consumption. The landscape runs on, among others, Mendix, Flowable, SAP, Java, TypeScript, and third-party applications, with integrations to multiple systems.

The KV chain is complex in content and the impact is significant. This requires someone who can not only automate but also brings test awareness, structure, and improvement power, and is capable of making teams self-sufficient.

What will you do

As a Senior Test Engineer, you have two focus points. Firstly, together with the enabling team, you will set up the automated test pipeline: the CI/CD pipeline with automated quality gates that provide faster and continuous quality feedback (shift-left, built-in quality). Secondly, you are an enabler: you help the test engineers in the DevOps teams to increase their test maturity, through 'doing it yourself, showing it, doing it together'. You have a broad knowledge and field of expertise and contribute, from refining requirements and user stories to dynamic testing, with a clear emphasis on test automation.

The division of dynamic testing is as follows: the development engineers take care of static code analysis and unit tests, and you, as a test engineer, will handle system (API and/or GUI), system integration (API & GUI), and end-to-end chain tests, both automated and, where necessary, manual for validation.

You will work closely with test engineers, development engineers, information analysts, product owners, test leads, and architects to ensure testable user stories and robust acceptance criteria.

Your activities include:

What you bring

You are an experienced, independent test professional with a demonstrable hands-on track record in test automation. You have independently executed multiple projects, not supervised from the sidelines. You quickly grasp complex processes and applications, think in terms of risks, chains, and data quality, and are skilled at translating functional and technical requirements into logical and physical test cases with the right test specification techniques. You are critical of quality but pragmatic enough to balance speed and reliability. You enjoy helping others improve.

  • Designing, implementing, maintaining, and executing automated regression test sets in Tosca (API and GUI) for system, system integration, and chain tests.
  • Co-creating and improving the CI/CD pipeline and automated quality gates (incl. automated tests).
  • Building reusable, maintainable, and scalable test cases, and translating business processes and chain logic into effective automated tests.
  • Applying test specification and test design techniques (such as equivalence classes, boundary value analysis, decision tables, process cycle testing, etc.) to derive logical test cases and elaborate them into physical test cases.
  • Setting up and executing risk analyses (risk-based testing) and determining test coverage and test intensity based on this.
  • Setting up Test Data Management and service virtualization (mocking and stubbing) so that automated tests can run reliably, representatively, and independently.
  • Contributing to the continuous reliability of the chain in terms of functionality, security, and performance.
  • Guiding and developing the test engineers in the DevOps teams in test maturity.
  • Registering, analyzing, and following up on findings and defects, including root cause analysis.
  • Strengthening test strategy, test coverage, and testability, and applying Definition of Ready and Definition of Done.

Requirements

  • HBO/WO work and thinking level, preferably in IT or a related field.
  • Demonstrable, recent hands-on experience as an executing test (automation) engineer in multiple Tosca projects. Coordination or supervision from the sidelines is not what we are looking for.
  • ISTQB or TMAP certification (or iSQI CAT or a comparable test basis).
  • Tosca certification AS1, AS2, AND TDS1, demonstrable and valid at commencement.
  • Experience with automating system, integration, and chain tests in Tosca (API & GUI).
  • Demonstrable experience in applying test design and test specification techniques and creating logical and physical test cases.
  • Demonstrable experience in coaching or enabling test engineers and teams.
  • Experience with risk-based testing and translating risks into test coverage.
  • Experience with Test Data Management, test environments, and improving testability in teams.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch, both spoken and written.

Nice to have

Selection framework

Fits this role: a senior test engineer who sees test automation in Tosca as the core of their work, who can co-create a pipeline with quality gates, AND who enjoys taking test engineers in DevOps teams to a higher level. Less suitable: someone who primarily performs manual functional testing and only uses automation incidentally.

Not suitable: candidates without demonstrable hands-on Tosca experience, without AS1/AS2/TDS1 certification, or whose focus in previous projects was mainly on coordination.

Interested? We would like to receive a CV and the following information (without this information, the CV will not be processed):

Earliest possible start date

Availability in hours per week

Rate all-in (incl. travel, parking costs and any overnight costs, excl. VAT)

Has the candidate worked for Enexis before?

Motivation

Two references will be requested during onboarding (preferably provide the references when responding to this request (name, tel, email address).
