Solution Architect - Commerce, Order Management & Delivery

£550 per day | Outside IR35 | Watford - 3 days onsite per week

We're looking for an experienced contract Solution Architect to own the architecture for a complex customer ordering and fulfilment transformation and provide technical leadership through implementation.

You must have delivered solutions spanning commerce, CRM, order management, fulfilment and billing, with clear examples of working directly with engineering teams to turn architectural decisions into functioning systems.

Be ready to discuss a specific programme where you owned the wider solution, an implementation decision you challenged or changed, and how you worked with engineers to carry the agreed approach through delivery.

Experience should extend beyond a single platform or workstream and include active involvement after the target architecture was agreed.

£550 per day, Outside IR35. You must be able to attend the Watford office three days per week.

• Own the end-to-end architecture across customer ordering, fulfilment, service activation and billing.
• Validate the existing systems landscape and define platform boundaries, responsibilities and systems of record.
• Design order life cycles covering asynchronous processing, partial completion, retries, timeouts, cancellations, compensation and reconciliation.
• Define API, event, messaging and workflow integrations, including security, idempotency, observability and recovery.
• Evaluate packaged platforms, existing capabilities and bespoke services, explaining capability, cost and delivery trade-offs.
• Produce implementation-ready designs, interface catalogues, architecture decisions and a phased delivery roadmap.
• Work directly with engineering managers, technical leads and developers to break the solution into practical delivery increments.
• Review detailed designs, challenge decisions that compromise the wider solution and resolve implementation issues collaboratively.
• Adapt the architecture where technical discovery supports a better approach, maintaining clear guardrails and decision ownership.
• Ownership of complex, cross-platform order-to-cash solutions, covering the journey from order acceptance through fulfilment and billing.
• A demonstrable track record of carrying architecture through detailed design and into implementation, with personal involvement in resolving delivery challenges.
• Strong Salesforce solution architecture and integration experience within a wider enterprise landscape.
• Technical depth across applications, integrations, data and platforms, with the credibility to challenge and influence engineering teams.
• Experience defining information ownership, system boundaries and reliable distributed processes.
• Experience assessing buy, configure, reuse and build options across multiple platforms.
• The ability to lead technical decisions across business stakeholders, internal teams and delivery partners without line-management authority.
