Function

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for providing technical support for the database environment, including overseeing the development and organization of databases, evaluating and implementing new technologies, and providing a long-term perspective to the IT department on the relationship between database technology and the business opportunities facing the company. It is of utmost importance to the company that online processing database systems offer the highest possible reliability and performance.

The DBA faces the challenge of collaborating with the architecture, application development, and operations departments to realize a state-of-the-art environment that meets current and future business objectives. He/she trains and develops employees from the technical support and application departments to better utilize the online processing database environment. He/she designs and delivers tools to support the management of the database and transaction processing environment. He/she works on setting up a working model of our transaction processing environment for capacity assessment and planning.

For this MS SQL Server-DBA position, a service-oriented mentality is required, a strong sense of responsibility for assigned problems and requests, focus on managing and resolving issues in accordance with SLAs, establishing and maintaining communication with technology vendors to keep your 'customers' informed of the status of their requests, initiating and implementing changes in production systems, and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established deadlines.

• This position can be filled with either a permanent contract (employee status) or a freelance contract

• You will join and support the DBA team.
• You are responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database servers and processes.
• You are responsible for upgrading, consolidating, and migrating databases between MS SQL servers, from A to Z: preparation – execution – follow-up. This can involve simple installations as well as critical high-availability platforms.
• You are responsible for managing the various databases in terms of performance, tuning, quality, security, availability, and consistency for MS SQL Server.
• You provide support for Azure SQL databases.
• You support application owners with questions and problems related to the installation and migration of MS SQL databases.
• You develop improvement proposals and ensure that the infrastructure runs smoothly.
• You proactively propose technical optimizations.
• A degree in one of the following fields of study: computer science, business administration, information technology, or a related field is preferred
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server and experience in troubleshooting and resolving database issues
• Initial experience with performance tuning and optimization, using monitoring and troubleshooting tools
• Initial experience with backups, recovery operations, and recovery models, knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) for MSSQL Server
• Experience implementing operational automations using scripts. Experience working with Windows Server, including Active Directory.
• You have good knowledge of or are willing to develop in-depth expertise in the following areas:
• Microsoft SQL Server (2017, 2019, and 2022)
• Microsoft SQL Server AlwaysOn AG
• Basic knowledge of Azure SQL databases
• Automation and scripting (PowerShell, T-SQL, …)
• Data backup and recovery – basic knowledge of Dell EMC NetWorker
• Microsoft Windows servers
• Monitoring tool – basic knowledge of RedGate SQL Monitor
• Proactive attitude to propose creative structural solutions
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Team player
