System Engineer Mainframe (z/OS Connect)

Responsibilities

• Operation, administration, and further development of IBM z/OS Connect EE on z/OS
• Support in connecting classic mainframe backend systems via modern APIs
• Analysis and processing of incidents and problems in 3rd level support
• Support in error analysis and coordination with internal and external contacts
• Further development and securing of highly available system and integration architectures
• Creation and maintenance of technical standards and documentation
• Support with authentication and authorization concepts as well as relevant security requirements
• Consulting on API and integration solutions
• Coordination with software manufacturers and other technical partners
• If necessary, support for planned weekend deployments

• Several years of practical experience with IBM z/OS Connect EE
• Experience with z/OS Connect in business-critical or highly available mainframe environments
• Good knowledge of OpenAPI 2.0 and/or OpenAPI 3.0
• Experience with REST APIs and JSON
• Experience in integrating mainframe systems with modern applications or cloud services
• Ideally, knowledge of relevant backend systems such as CICS, IMS, MQ, or Db2
• Good knowledge of the typical z/OS environment, especially USS and shell scripting
• Experience in operation and technical error analysis
• Independent and structured way of working
• Good communication skills in a technical environment
• Ideally, ITIL knowledge

Project

For an ongoing mainframe environment, we are looking for an experienced System Engineer (m/f/d) with a focus on IBM z/OS Connect on short notice.

The assignment is initially planned as temporary support and bridging until the position can be permanently filled internally. We are therefore looking for a freelancer who can quickly familiarize themselves with an existing environment and provide operational support to the team at short notice.
