Job description
Seeking a System Architect for complex Head-up Display (HUD) systems, responsible for the overall system architecture, integrating optical, electronic, mechanical, and thermodynamic components. The role involves translating requirements into concepts, specifications, and interface definitions, and accompanying development from conception to validation.
Project overview
As a System Architect HUD, you will take on a central technical role in the development of complex Head-up Display systems. You will be responsible for the overall system architecture, ensuring that optical, electronic, mechanical, and thermodynamic components are integrated into a high-performance, robust, and certifiable system solution. You will work closely with the departments of Optics, Photonics, Electronics, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Process Development, and Project Management, as well as with customers and external partners.
You will translate technical and customer-specific requirements into clear system concepts, specifications, and robust interface definitions. You will accompany development at the system level from initial conception through design and implementation to verification and validation. A particular focus will be on the integration of the micro-optical waveguide and the image generator into the overall system. Furthermore, you will contribute your expertise to design decisions, risk analyses, technical reviews, and customer presentations.
You will have the opportunity to actively evaluate technological developments such as new display and light source technologies and to actively shape product development. You will be responsible for the overall system architecture of the HUD system, including the interfaces to the micro-optical waveguide and the image generator. You will conceptualize, specify, implement, and test system solutions in close cooperation with optics, process development, and customer teams. You will design and describe electronic, thermodynamic, mechanical, and optical interfaces in a comprehensible manner.
You will plan and design systems considering specific certification and aviation requirements, such as DO-254. You will support project management in effort estimations, risk analyses, and technical customer presentations. You will create and maintain system requirements, system and subsystem specifications, and interface documents. You will conduct system and architecture reviews and evaluate technical design variants, such as new display and light source technologies.
Requirements
For this challenging position, you bring several years of experience in systems engineering or system architecture of complex mechatronic or optoelectronic systems. You have a sound technical understanding and can confidently assess interrelationships between optics, electronics, mechanics, thermodynamics, and software. It is particularly important that you can structure and analyze technical requirements, develop suitable system solutions, and translate them into clear specifications and verifiable criteria.
A completed degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics or Photonics, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable field forms the professional basis. Ideally, you have already worked in the aerospace environment and are familiar with the special requirements for environmental conditions, functional safety, evidence, and certification. You work independently, flexibly, and meticulously, and can communicate complex technical issues understandably.
As you will be working in an international environment with different disciplines and customers, you need very good German and English skills, both written and spoken. You have a completed degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optics/Photonics, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable field. You bring five to ten years of professional experience in systems engineering or system architecture of complex mechatronic or optoelectronic systems.
You possess demonstrably sound knowledge in the development of optical, electrical, and electro-optical systems, including electronic control and cooling concepts. You have programming skills, preferably in Python, and ideally also in C or C++. You preferably have experience in the aerospace environment and with relevant standards, environmental conditions, and functional safety requirements in aviation and space. You are familiar with requirements management; experience with model-based systems engineering, e.g., SysML or UML, is an advantage.
You work flexibly, structurally, and independently, and can clearly analyze and document complex technical interrelationships. You communicate very confidently in German and English, both written and spoken. Additional Information: Project No.: 1084056 Job Type: Location: Start: 26.10.2026 Duration: 6 months
