Responsibilities

• elaborating, refining, and assessing functional and technical requirements;
• translating business needs into concrete technical solutions;
• describing the desired functional behavior of the smart meter and Gateway;
• elaborating technical specifications and interfaces, including X1, X2, and X3;
• technically defining and assessing protocols and associated certificate management;
• advising on processes, interfaces, and architectural choices;
• sparring with software developers and other technical experts;
• coordinating with the software supplier on technical choices and implementation;
• assessing and verifying the software delivered by the supplier;
• supporting integration and lab testing of the total meter concept;
• monitoring coherence and dependencies between software, hardware, and other components of the NextGen concept;
• providing technical-substantive advice for decision-making.

Requirements

This is a multi-year and technically specialized assignment within a sector-wide program. The new meter concept is jointly developed by the three major Dutch network operators. The development has important dependencies between the App-layer, hardware, system integration, and various suppliers.

• You can maintain an overview at a high level as well as go into technical depth and are able to provide direction when technical choices need to be made.
• A technical and/or IT background.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a technical-substantive or IT role. Experience with Linux and embedded systems.
• Knowledge of or experience with Rust.
• Experience with technical protocols and interfaces.
• Knowledge of certificates and certificate management within protocols.
• Experience with integrating different software and/or hardware components.
• Ability to translate business and functional needs into technical solutions.
• Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various technical disciplines and organizations.
• Proactive attitude and ability to independently research and advance technical topics.

For the NextGen program, we are looking for an experienced technical consultant/expert who can bridge the gap between the smart meter, IT, software development, and the measurement chain. You will be involved in the technical aspects of the new generation of smart meters and ensure that business needs and requirements are translated into technically functional solutions.

Within the NextGen sector program, Enexis, Alliander, and Stedin are jointly working on the development of the new generation of smart meters (DSMR 6). Approximately 110 employees from the various network operators are involved in the program.

An important part of the new meter concept is the Gateway: a replaceable communication module with a Linux operating system and an application layer (App-layer). This application layer handles communication flows and interfaces within the measurement chain.

The coming period will focus on further development, integration, and testing of the concept. This involves intensive collaboration with software and hardware suppliers and the System Integration Office.
