Interim Backoffice Transformation Manager (Freight Forwarding)

Project overview

As Interim Backoffice Transformation Manager you will shape a centralised back-office function for freight forwarding operations.

Profile of the suited interim professional:

• Analyse existing quoting, booking and invoicing processes in freight forwarding
• Map responsibilities, transaction volumes, bottlenecks and system usage
• Design a future back-office operating model covering workflows, roles, capacity and KPIs
• Determine which tasks remain decentralised and which should be centralised
• Lead and build a new back-office team of roughly 5-10 staff
• Work closely with operations managers active in forwarding, container logistics and customs
• Lead efforts to standardise, automate and continuously improve processes
• Work with internal IT teams on process optimisation
• Review invoicing backlogs and overdue invoices for inefficiencies
• Use CargoWise and related tools to improve workflow visibility
• Draft transparent process documentation and SOPs
• Influence stakeholders and drive change without direct hierarchical authority
• Provide a workable implementation roadmap aimed at lasting operational excellence
• Proven background in freight forwarding (mandatory)
• Experience setting up, centralising or optimising back-office, customer service or shared service operations
• Solid understanding of the freight forwarding process from quotation to invoicing
• Practical experience working with CargoWise or a similar platform
• Track record of delivering change and process improvements in operational teams
• Strong analytical skills reviewing volumes, throughput and performance metrics
• Experience leading operational teams in fast-paced environments
• Ability to design and personally implement practical solutions
• Solid stakeholder management skills combined with good communication in Dutch and English
• Availability for a short-notice start and full-time on-site work in Rotterdam
• ZZP registration and residency in the Netherlands
