Job description
Established platform company in Employee Benefits and HR technology seeks an experienced Backend Python Engineer for a major scaling initiative, focusing on preparing for a large customer migration.
Project overview
An established platform company in the field of Employee Benefits and HR technology is looking for an experienced Backend Python Engineer to support a significant scaling initiative. You will be part of a small, independent platform team and will contribute significantly to preparing for a large customer migration.
Your main tasks will include identifying and resolving scaling bottlenecks, introducing asynchronous processing, automating customer configurations, and developing and maintaining a REST API for a self-service customer portal. You will also perform integrations with third-party HR systems and expand the existing transaction platform. The focus is approximately 90% on backend and 10% on frontend development.
We are looking for someone with at least 5 years of commercial Python experience in large, complex codebases. You should be proficient in REST API development with frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask and have extensive AWS knowledge, particularly in Kubernetes (EKS) and PostgreSQL (RDS). Solid database skills, SQL optimization, CI/CD pipeline management, and a strong testing culture are essential. You will work independently from the design phase to delivery and make architectural decisions. Basic knowledge of React as well as fluent English and secure communication with non-technical teams are required.
The position is designed as a 10-month freelance engagement with optional extension. 100% remote work is possible, with occasional office visits. Candidates should be based in Europe within CET ±2 hours and be available from December 1st. Experience in fintech, payment systems, data migration, or asynchronous queues is advantageous.
