Job description
The Data Architect will define target architectures and transformation roadmaps for modern, robust, and scalable data platforms in a hybrid cloud/on-premise environment. This role involves cross-functional intervention on data projects, data governance, security, and performance optimization.
Project overview
Context
The mission is part of the Data division within a digital and transformation directorate of a player in the airport sector. The objective is to design modern, robust, and scalable Data platforms for strategic projects, in a context of transition towards a hybrid architecture combining cloud and on-premise infrastructure intended to host sensitive data. The existing environment notably includes SAP BO, SAP BI, and SAP BODS tools, with a migration in progress towards Azure and Power BI.
Mission
The Data Architect intervenes transversally on Data projects. They define target architectures and transformation trajectories, frame the creation of Data foundations by business domain, contribute to data governance and security, and propose solutions to optimize the performance of data visualization platforms and tools. They guide projects towards architectures adapted to their needs, particularly for the use of S3-compatible object storage in an on-premise environment.
Main Responsibilities
Technical Environment
Expected Deliverables
- Define the target Data architecture, the transformation trajectory, and choices between cloud and on-premise.
- Map sources, flows, tools, and technical debt, conduct technological watch, and evaluate new solutions through POCs and benchmarks.
- Design Data platforms (Data Lake, DWH, Lakehouse, Data Mesh) and define patterns for data ingestion, transformation, and exposure, in batch, real-time, or via API.
- Frame Data foundation projects organized by business domain and supervise data modeling and MDM repositories.
- Optimize platform and Power BI performance, taking into account load peaks generated by advanced usage.
- Design performant, scalable, and cost-controlled architectures, and contribute to FinOps monitoring.
- Define development and documentation standards, and implement data governance: quality, lineage, catalog, and metadata.
- Ensure access security, encryption, and secrets management, as well as GDPR compliance.
- Define CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code principles, and oversee platform supervision, exploitability, and resilience.
- Collaborate with multiple stakeholders: business owners, project management, IT operations, and users.
- Cloud and systems: Microsoft Azure, Linux, on-premise environments, hybrid architecture, S3-compatible storage
- Languages and data: SQL, Synapse, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Python, PySpark, Spark SQL, DAX, Power Query (M), YAML, Bash
- Storage and databases: ADLS Gen2, Azure Synapse Analytics, NAS storage, SQL Server, PostgreSQL
- Processing and orchestration: Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Spark, OPCON
- Data visualization: Power BI Desktop, Power BI Service
- DevOps and infrastructure: Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD, Terraform, Infrastructure as Code
- Architecture, governance, and compliance: Data Lake, DWH, Lakehouse, Data Mesh, MDM, FinOps, RBAC, GDPR, BCP/DRP
- Target architecture dossier, transformation roadmap, and Data master plan.
- Application and flow mapping, source and tool inventory, audit report, and technical debt assessment.
- Technology watch notes, POC reports, benchmark grids, build vs buy and cloud vs on-premise studies, recommendations, and multi-criteria choice grids.
- Technical architecture dossier (DAT), logical and physical architecture diagrams, integration pattern catalog, pipeline templates, and API specifications.
- Conceptual, logical, physical data models, data dictionary, and MDM repository model.
- Sizing dossier, performance recommendations, and FinOps monitoring table.
- Standards guide and compliance checklists, quality policy, lineage mapping, data catalog, and metadata repository.
- Access management, secrets, and encryption policies, data classification, GDPR impact assessments (PIA), retention and anonymization rules.
- Branching and deployment strategy, Azure DevOps pipeline templates, reference Terraform modules, operational dossier, supervision plan, and Data platform BCP/DRP.
