Project overview
Expert Solution Architecture – Mapping of the IT Landscape and Application Data Flows
Freelance · Saint-Ouen (93, line 14) · 2 to 3 days per week · 3 months · Immediate start
The Context
A large international group is launching a global initiative to map its IT landscape within a Business IT department. The objective: to build a consolidated view of applications, programs, and projects within the scope, across multiple regions — their purpose, technologies, interactions, and the data flows they exchange.
You will work in a pair with a PMO on a short and defined setup: 1 architecture expert + 1 PMO. You will bring the architecture expertise and will supervise the PMO's work daily — challenging, reviewing, and validating deliverables before presenting them to the client.
The Mission
Four phases:
The Deliverables
- Inventory and Description. Identify applications, programs, and projects within the Business IT scope, in all relevant regions and for global initiatives. Collect and consolidate information from business, IT, and regional stakeholders. Describe the purpose, main functionalities, users, and geographical scope of each element. Identify business and IT owners as well as local and global contacts.
- Technological Analysis. Document the existing technologies based on available information: platforms, solutions, languages, databases, hosting, key dependencies. Note versions and major components where relevant. Report missing information, dependencies, and points of attention — without replacing architecture or security teams.
- Mapping of Interactions. Identify interactions between applications, programs, and projects. Document source and target systems, direct exchanges, and dependencies. Distinguish, as much as possible, between existing elements and those planned or under development. Produce clear global and regional views.
- Documentation of Data Flows. Describe the data flows between systems: data exchanged, direction, frequency or trigger, exchange method, interfaces. Identify flow owners and points to confirm. Produce a consolidated map of data flows and the associated inventory.
- Consolidated inventory of Business IT applications, programs, and projects, with descriptions and key contacts
- Documented repository of technologies and dependencies
- Map of interactions between systems and initiatives
- Catalogue of data flows, with available information and identified gaps
- Reusable global and regional views for stakeholders
- Summary of findings, open questions, and recommended next steps
