Project Request: Microsoft SQL Server Expert (m/f/d) – Performance Optimization

Project Context

We are looking for an experienced Microsoft SQL Server expert for our client to analyze and optimize an existing database environment. The assignment will be fully remote.

• Analysis of the existing SQL Server environment regarding performance and bottlenecks
• Identification of slow and resource-intensive queries, e.g., via execution plans, Query Store, DMVs, and Wait Statistics
• Optimization of existing queries, stored procedures, and views
• Analysis and optimization of the index strategy (missing, redundant, and fragmented indexes, statistics)
• Review and adjustment of performance-relevant instance and database settings, e.g., MAXDOP, Cost Threshold for Parallelism, memory configuration, TempDB, and Compatibility Level
• Evaluation of maintenance jobs (index rebuild/reorg, statistics updates) and development of improvements
• Coordination of changes with the client and the operations team in the data center
• Documentation of analysis results, implemented measures, and recommendations
• Knowledge transfer to the client's contact persons
• Several years of experience as a SQL Server DBA or performance specialist [e.g., min. 5 years]
• Profound knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server [relevant versions to be added, e.g., 2016–2022]
• Very good T-SQL skills
• Demonstrable experience in query tuning and analysis of execution plans
• Experience with index design and statistics management
• Confident use of performance diagnostic tools such as Query Store, Extended Events, DMVs, and Wait Stats
• Experience with configuring SQL Server instances in production environments
• English language skills
• Microsoft certification, e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300) or older MCSA/MCSE Data Platform
• Experience with high availability solutions (Always On Availability Groups, Failover Cluster)
• Experience in operating SQL Server in data center or hosting environments
• Knowledge of PowerShell or DBAtools for automation
• Experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Redgate SQL Monitor)
• German language skills
