Job description

The Royal Netherlands Navy is looking for a Project Controller to manage complex maintenance and sustainment projects within the Material Maintenance Directorate (DMI).

Project overview

You will work at the Material Maintenance Directorate (DMI) of the Royal Netherlands Navy in Den Helder. DMI is responsible for the maintenance and sustainment of the (weapon) systems of the Royal Netherlands Navy. The directorate is involved in the entire lifecycle of ships and systems: from new construction and commissioning to maintenance, modernization, and eventual decommissioning.

Within DMI, work is being done on the further professionalization of the project organization and on better control of technically complex maintenance and sustainment projects. This is done, among other things, through the improvement sub-program 'Verbeteren Projectmatig Onderhoud' (VPO), which is part of the 'SamenSterk' program.

An important part of this development is the establishment and further organization of a Project Control Organization (PBO). This organization supports maintenance projects in the planned, predictable, and controlled execution of work. In addition, the PBO contributes to the development, standardization, and safeguarding of methods, techniques, and procedures in the field of project control.

  • You monitor the coherence between scope, planning, capacity, risks, quality, and progress.
  • You identify, analyze, and manage project risks and monitor the follow-up of mitigating measures.
  • You identify bottlenecks, dependencies, and deviations in the project plan and advise on possible improvement measures.
  • You set up, manage, and monitor project files. This includes PID's, PMP's, decision documents, and reports.
  • You monitor and improve the application of quality processes and project control methodologies.
  • You organize and facilitate risk, work package, and progress sessions.
  • You support the project leader with progress and deviation reports and with the preparation of decision-making in the steering committee.
  • You contribute to the development, improvement, and safeguarding of methods and techniques for project control.
  • You help increase craftsmanship by sharing knowledge and providing training and information.
  • Requirements regarding experience: The candidate has at least 3 years of experience in the domain of project control for complex projects.
  • Language proficiency: The candidate has good command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written.
  • Availability: The minimum number of hours available per week is important for efficient deployment. The available working hours per week are at least 32 hours, excluding vacation leave, public holidays, and the like, with a maximum of 9 hours per working day.
  • Obtained diplomas: You have a university education in a technical and/or business administration field.
  • Knowledge and experience: You have more than 6 years of demonstrable experience in the domain of project control in a technically complex setting.
  • Courses, certificates, etc.: You have additional training/courses in the field of project control.
  • Courses, certificates, etc.: You have an IPMA-D or Prince2-F certificate.
