Requirements Engineer

Project overview

For one of our end clients in Frankfurt, we are currently looking for a Requirements Engineer on a freelance basis.

Project:

This involves a platform with tens of millions of users per year, experiencing peak loads every weekend. It is being rebuilt: App and Web, new architecture, go-live beginning of 2028. We are looking for someone to take over Requirements Engineering and ensure that requirements are testable before they go into development.

Responsibilities

Expected Results:

• Translation of initiatives into epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria for App and Web
• Slicing requirements into vertical slices that are individually releasable, including clarification of dependencies
• Acceptance criteria as executable specifications, coordinated with QA. Co-design of the format
• Functional migration: feature parity, data migration, interfaces
• Moderation of refinements with PO, Architecture, Backend, App/Web, UX, and QA
• Validation of requirements through user interviews and tracking data
• Building and maintaining data models, glossaries, and customer journeys
• Building an AI-supported RE workflow: story drafts, consistency checks across the backlog, derivation of test cases. With critical review of the results and documented in a way that the team can continue to use it
• Backlog for the next quarter is refined and sliced into vertical slices
• Acceptance criteria are available in a format that QA can test automatically
• Migration scope 1.0 ? 2.0 is fully described functionally
• Data model, glossary, and customer journeys are current in Confluence
• AI-supported RE workflow is documented and handed over

• Several years of Requirements Engineering or Business Analysis in agile product teams, ideally also in app projects
• Productive use of AI tools in Requirements Engineering.
• Experience with specification-driven testing approaches (e.g., BDD, Gherkin)
• Confident handling of backlog structuring, story quality criteria, and non-functional requirements (performance, accessibility, GDPR)
• Sufficient understanding of APIs, data models, and Domain-Driven Design for discussions with architecture at eye level
• Experience with Jira and Confluence
• Experience in migration or relaunch projects
• Location: Frankfurt / remote

• Remote share: 30%
• Tuesday to Thursday in Frankfurt, Monday and Friday remote
• Language skills: German (C1)
