Job description

Project overview

About Dateonic & the project

Big Data and AI are in our DNA, with Databricks at the core of our innovation. Founded by engineers and architects passionate about tackling complex data challenges, Dateonic combines industry-leading technical expertise with a product-focused approach to turn raw data into actionable intelligence. Our culture is driven by three core values: Passion, Community, and Commitment. We love tough problems, support each other through close collaboration, and deliver what we promise without taking shortcuts.

In this outsourcing engagement, you will represent Dateonic on a 6-month contract role (full-time, with potential for extension) partnering with a global leader in experience innovation. You will join an agile delivery squad building an enterprise Loyalty Revenue Accounting solution on Databricks. The platform ingests data from loyalty engines and transactional source systems to produce critical accounting outputs, journals, and reports for Finance. Joining this initiative gives you the opportunity to shape complex financial data logic while being supported by Dateonic's specialised data community.

The role

We are looking for a proactive Business Analyst (Data) to bridge the gap between business stakeholders and technical engineering squads. In this role, you will define the core data requirements, testable business logic, and detailed mapping rules that data engineers will build from, keeping documentation aligned as requirements iterate.

Beyond capturing high-level process flows, you will inspect data structures, understand transaction lifecycles, and translate complex accounting rules into concrete technical specifications. You will thrive here if you enjoy solving intricate logic problems, collaborating across delivery teams, and working at the intersection of finance, technology, and data.

Responsibilities

Must-have requirements

  • Define and document detailed data requirements for a Databricks-based platform solution, partnering closely with Finance product teams and technical architects.
  • Specify business logic in precise, testable terms, including calculations, revenue allocations, transaction treatment rules, and accounting journal outputs.
  • Produce comprehensive source-to-target mapping specifications covering field-level definitions, data transformations, and reference data structures.
  • Write clear user stories, functional requirements, and unambiguous acceptance criteria in Jira, providing sufficient depth for engineers to build and testers to validate against.
  • Maintain end-to-end traceability from business objectives through to technical mappings, design documents, and ongoing specification updates.
  • Identify data anomalies, edge cases, and scope gaps early, proactively presenting potential solutions and business impact assessments.
  • Collaborate continuously with the product manager, data engineers, architects, and quality engineers throughout the delivery lifecycle to validate built pipelines against specifications.
  • Facilitate solution walkthroughs and formal sign-offs with Finance stakeholders and business owners.
  • Proven experience as a Business Analyst on data-centric initiatives, including data platforms, data warehouses, or data migration projects.
  • Demonstrated track record of defining low-level data mapping logic and technical business rules rather than only high-level process flows.
  • Strong written requirement skills with extensive experience writing and structuring user stories and acceptance criteria in Jira.
  • Practical ability to read, query, and reason about complex data models, schemas, and tabular structures using SQL.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of translating between commercial finance teams and technical delivery squads.
  • Hands-on experience working within iterative Agile delivery teams.
  • Availability for a full-time, 6-month freelance contract with an immediate or near-term start.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on familiarity with the Databricks Lakehouse platform or similar cloud data environments.
  • Domain knowledge in corporate finance, revenue accounting, or financial reconciliations and journal generation.
  • Prior experience working with loyalty programmes, airline systems, or travel industry data structures.
  • Understanding of event-driven architectures and streaming data sources.
