Senior Expert Software Engineer Java – Lead Developer with Kafka Focus

Project overview

For an established financial institution in Switzerland, we are looking for a Senior Expert Software Engineer (Java) in a technical lead role. You will be part of an agile development team and contribute to the design and architecture of systems that process large volumes of banking transactions daily – quickly, reliably, and intelligently enriched.

Your responsibilities include shaping design and architecture, developing high-performance, scalable, and distributed applications, and taking responsibility for technical decisions. You will support the team during refinements, implement demanding solutions hands-on, and ensure code performance, maintainability, and reliability. At the same time, you will actively share your experience and learnings with the team and proactively drive optimization potentials.

A Senior Expert at the highest professional level is required – not just an experienced developer. Especially important: You bring intensive, multi-year Kafka experience (at least two to three years), not just superficial knowledge. The technology stack includes Spring Boot, Kafka, and Kubernetes.

You have at least eight years of professional experience in software development with Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, SQL, and REST. You have proven experience in technical lead roles with ongoing development involvement and can conceptualize and implement complex, distributed systems. Strong communication skills and the ability to convincingly represent technical decisions are essential.

The commitment is designed for 14 months with an option, full-time position, available immediately. The work location is Bern.
