For upcoming modernization projects in the mid-sized business sector, we are looking for experienced integration architects (m/f/d) for our expert pool.

A typical project looks like this:

Starting Situation

A grown business application is being modernized and migrated to Google Cloud. Over the years, it has become intertwined with surrounding systems: master data and postings are exchanged with an ERP (e.g., SAP S/4HANA or ECC), plus CRM, document management, payment service providers, and partner portals, partly via file interfaces and nightly batch runs. The goal is an integration architecture with clear responsibilities, versioned APIs, and event-based coupling that supports the step-by-step migration without operational interruption.

The SAP side of the interfaces is the responsibility of an SAP architect; you are responsible for the application and cloud side.

Job facts: Direct client project

• Inventory and evaluate existing interfaces (protocols, data flows, dependencies, error patterns)
• Design the target state of the integration architecture: integration patterns (synchronous, event-based, batch), data ownership, error and retry strategies
• Set up API design and API management (OpenAPI, versioning, Apigee or API Gateway, security with OAuth2)
• Design event-based coupling with Pub/Sub or Kafka, including schema management and idempotency
• Specify the ERP connection together with the SAP architect (e.g., OData, SAP Integration Suite) and manage the implementation on the application side
• Plan the migration path for interfaces: parallel operation, switchover, fallback
• Ensure observability and operation of the integrations (monitoring, alerting, traceability)
• Document the integration architecture, represent decisions in committees, and guide development teams
• At least 7 years of experience in software development or architecture, with at least 4 years as an integration or API architect in productive enterprise landscapes
• Demonstrable responsibility for API design and API management (OpenAPI, versioning, gateway) and for event-based integrations (Kafka or Pub/Sub)
• Experience with at least one ERP connection from an application perspective (e.g., SAP via OData, IDoc, or Integration Suite)
• Practical experience in cloud environments (preferably Google Cloud, alternatively AWS or Azure) and in replacing file and batch interfaces
• Fluent German, good English
• Apigee, Cloud Run, Eventarc, and Workflows on Google Cloud
• Integration platforms such as SAP Integration Suite, MuleSoft, Boomi, or Apache Camel
• Schema management (Avro, Protobuf, Schema Registry) and contract testing
• Security and data protection concepts for interfaces (GDPR, tenant separation)
• Certifications (e.g., Google Professional Cloud Architect, TOGAF, iSAQB CPSA)
• Collaboration in agile, distributed teams
• Assignment: predominantly remote, occasional on-site appointments in DACH
• Duration: typically 4 to 6 months, extension possible
• Utilization: 80 to 100 percent
