Job description
Seeking a Senior T-SQL Performance Engineer to optimize complex Transact SQL solutions, focusing on stored procedures, query performance, and locking/blocking issues in high-concurrency environments.
Responsibilities
Profile
- Conception, implementation, review, and optimization of demanding Transact SQL solutions with a focus on stored procedures, triggers, set-based processing, temporary tables, and robust error handling.
- Systematic performance analysis using actual execution plans, as well as optimization of queries, indexing, statistics, and plan stability.
- Analysis and reduction of locking, blocking, deadlocks, and lock escalation in highly concurrent multi-user scenarios.
- Performance-safe implementation of large insert, update, and delete operations through appropriate batch, transaction, restart, and rollback strategies.
- Further development of related data models and insert/delete pipelines, considering foreign keys, referential integrity, and cascade rules.
- Performance-oriented processing of hierarchical data as well as high-volume audit and change collectors.
- Adaptation of associated OLE DB connections in C++ together with the developers of the calling components.
- Securing changes through targeted tests, code reviews, measurable before/after comparisons, and CI/CD checks.
- Maintenance of comprehensible work tasks in Azure DevOps and structured knowledge transfer to the internal development team.
- Explicit and deterministic implementation with full schema qualification, defined column lists, explicit joins, and stable sorting.
- Comprehensive, current project experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Transact SQL in productive, business-critical systems.
- Strong T-SQL expertise in triggers, set-based processing, temporary tables, and robust error handling; secure processing of multi-row operations.
- Demonstrable expertise in performance tuning: analyzing actual execution plans, optimizing queries and indexes, and mastering locking, blocking, and large DML operations.
- Solid experience with related data, foreign keys, and cascade rules within complex insert/delete pipelines.
- Experience in performance-oriented processing of hierarchical data and high-volume audit or change collectors.
- Sufficient practical C++ experience to adapt associated OLE DB connections together with the developers of the calling departments.
- Confident use of SQL Server Management Studio, Git, Azure DevOps, and automated CI/CD checks.
- Practice with Query Store, Extended Events, Dynamic Management Views, and Wait Statistics for sound root cause analysis.
- Confident handling of transactions, referential integrity, isolation levels, transaction log, restart, and rollback.
- Experience with automated tests for database logic and with backward-compatible, ideally idempotent deployment and migration scripts.
