Job description

The RAL Deutsches Institut fur Gutesicherung und Kennzeichnung e. V. is seeking a Specialist for Environmental Labels to join their RAL UMWELT team. The role involves processing applications for the "Blauer Engel" and EU Ecolabel, advising companies, and evaluating technical documents.

Project overview

SPECIALIST: ENVIRONMENTAL LABEL (m/f/d) For our team in the RAL UMWELT department, we are looking for you as soon as possible in full or part-time (from 30 hours). The position is initially limited to 2 years.

RAL Deutsches Institut fur Gutesicherung und Kennzeichnung e. V. has been the umbrella organization in Germany for the creation of quality marks since 1925 and is one of the world's oldest labeling experts. RAL gGmbH is a non-profit and 100% subsidiary of RAL. It combines the business units RAL UMWELT, RAL FARBEN, RAL LOGO LIZENZ, and RAL AKADEMIE.

With our RAL UMWELT business unit, we are the sole awarding body for the environmental label "Blauer Engel" as well as for the European environmental label EU Ecolabel in Germany. Both environmental labels stand for particularly environmentally friendly goods and services and are only awarded after passing a strict application process, during which specific environmental criteria are checked.

We have been fulfilling the task of awarding the "Blauer Engel" for almost 50 years as a service provider on behalf of the Federal Environment Agency, while since 1992 we have been notified to the European Commission as a Competent Body for awarding the European environmental label.

Responsibilities

  • You will independently process applications for the use of the Blauer Engel and the EU Ecolabel.
  • You will advise applicant companies on the certification process, the award criteria, and the required evidence in various product groups, such as textiles, shoes, furniture, floor coverings, thermal insulation materials, and more.
  • You will evaluate chemicals, safety data sheets, test and audit reports, and other technical evidence.
  • You will work with the Federal Environment Agency, federal ministries, the EU Commission, and other institutions.
  • You will participate in the revision of award criteria and the preparation of the associated application documents.
  • You will participate in expert discussions, hearings, and internal and external meetings.
  • You will prepare evaluations and reports and maintain the relevant specialist data.
  • You will support the acquisition of new label users, for example through webinars and participation in trade fairs and specialist events.
