System Engineer

Our customers primarily include ministries, authorities, the Federal Republic of Germany, and public administrations. We also work for large companies in the private sector.

To temporarily support our team, we are looking for a "System Engineer (m/f/d)" as soon as possible.

Responsibilities

To support the "Data Center Revision" project, we are looking for employees with the qualification Junior System Engineer for the revision and the qualification System Engineer for the subsequent migration.

Junior System Engineer:

System Engineer during the migration phase:

• Checking the existing cabling (copper and fiber optic) for conformity with operating specifications and comparing it with the operating documentation in the AG's CMDB (i-doit).
• Identifying and documenting deviations, and if necessary, correcting the documentation in the AG's CMDB (i-doit).
• Recording and evaluating legacy issues (e.g., no longer used cables, incorrect labels, defective ports, insufficient cable length).
• Creating a test report with recommendations for action.
• Initiating tickets in the AG's ITSM tool (Servity) or the data center operator's ticketing system (JIRA).
• Creating a migration plan for the replacement of the 40 LAN switches, including scheduling, milestones, and resource requirements.
• Coordinating the procedure with the client (AG) and the data center operator (NTT), particularly regarding:
• Time slots for migrations (operating hours, maintenance windows).
• Communication and escalation paths (including the use of Servity and JIRA).
• Fallback and emergency concepts.
• Preparing for hardware replacement:
• Pre-configuration according to the target concept specifications.
• Performing the hardware replacement.
• Dismantling and storing old equipment, and if necessary, decommissioning it through existing processes in ZIT-BB.
• Installing and commissioning new equipment.
• Patching the cabling according to the installation plan.
• Functional testing and acceptance.
• Documenting the activities performed.
• Updating network diagrams with the AG on a four-eyes principle.
• Follow-up with the AG in the form of Lessons Learned.
• Creating final documentation.

Requirements

Project Data:

• Knowledge of data center networks:
• Junior System Engineer with at least 3 years of professional experience.
• System Engineer with at least 5 years of professional experience.
• Knowledge of Cisco networks, preferably ACI, possibly with certification.
• Experience with comparable migration projects.
• Experience with public IT service providers.
• Project start: approx. November 2026
• Project duration: approx. 26 weeks
• Utilization: according to estimated effort.

Project details

Potsdam - The main part of the service provision takes place at the contractor's location. Picking up and dropping off hardware, as well as participating in individual workshops at the client's site, are possible. This is a project with almost fully remote deployment.
