Project overview
Contract role in London for a hands-on systems architect/systems engineering lead to own end-to-end architecture for AI-native, cloud-native, data-intensive distributed systems. The role focuses on specification-first engineering (clear acceptance criteria and NFRs), designing secure/resilient architectures across APIs, event-driven systems and data pipelines, and setting standards/guardrails for AI-assisted delivery.
Strong AWS cloud architecture, CI/CD and IaC, observability, security controls, and production readiness are required, along with solid CS fundamentals and proficiency in a systems language (Go/Rust/C/C++/Java).
Responsibilities
- Agree to the processing of your personal information for the purposes of this recruitment process.
- Consent to the retention of your data on file for a period of 12 months for consideration in future roles.
Requirements
- Software architecture and systems engineering (end-to-end architecture ownership)
- Distributed systems design (scalability, resilience, security)
- Specification-first engineering (deterministic specs, acceptance criteria, NFRs)
- AI-assisted engineering tools / coding agents (use, orchestration, validation/governance of outputs)
- Cloud architecture experience (preferably AWS) including security, observability, deployment and cost considerations
- CI/CD and production support/operational models
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Observability patterns (logging/metrics/tracing) and operational controls
- Secure-by-design and quality governance (test-first, compliant engineering practices)
- Strong CS fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, concurrency, OS, networking, APIs, performance trade-offs)
- Programming in at least one system-oriented/strongly engineered language (Go, Rust, C/C++, Java or equivalent)
- Ability to work directly with users/stakeholders to clarify requirements and ensure outcomes match needs
- Architecture/design leadership (resolve trade-offs, guide teams through ambiguity)
- Production readiness assurance (functional, security, performance, resilience, operational acceptance)
Project details
- Start: flexible
