Backend Engineer [Kotlin, Spring Boot]

Project overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer for our TITANS freelancers team for a long-term international project, involved in the development and evolution of a digital banking platform in the banking sector.

• the project will be realized within the Platform Department, which ensures shared technological foundations, frameworks, libraries, development tools, and platform services used by hundreds of developers and product teams across the banking group
• the project also includes improving observability, tracing, developer experience, and the overall reliability of the platform

• design, development, and maintenance of backend frameworks and platform services for the digital banking platform
• development of backend solutions using Kotlin and Spring Boot
• design and implementation of reusable components, libraries, and shared technical solutions
• development and maintenance of REST API
• development of internal frameworks and backend architecture
• design of high-quality software abstractions and interfaces usable across multiple teams
• improving developer experience and the efficiency of development teams
• development and optimization of CI/CD processes, tools, and automation
• working with Gradle and optimizing build processes
• improving monitoring, observability, and distributed tracing
• supporting the stability, reliability, and scalability of platform services
• collaboration on the development and modernization of backend architecture
• collaboration with other backend, frontend, mobile, and platform engineering teams
• design and implementation of technical proof of concept (PoC) solutions
• identifying opportunities for improving existing frameworks, libraries, and development tools
• implementation of clean, testable, and maintainable code
• preparation and maintenance of automated tests
• participation in code reviews and sharing of technical knowledge
• collaboration in solving complex technical problems
• supporting the adoption of modern engineering practices and tools
• collaboration on innovative solutions including the use of AI-assisted development tools
• collaboration is possible only on a full-time basis in a hybrid mode ONSITE min. 3 days a week (Bratislava) + REMOTE (or by agreement with the client)
• the final remuneration depends on the candidate's experience and the course of the selection process
• min. 4 years of active experience in backend development
• very good practical knowledge of Spring Boot
• practical experience with development in Kotlin
• experience with the design and implementation of REST API
• practical knowledge of Gradle
• experience with modern CI/CD processes and automation
• experience with the design, development, and maintenance of backend services
• good understanding of software architecture and backend component design
• ability to write clean, maintainable, and testable code
• experience with automated software testing
• ability to independently analyze and solve complex technical problems
• experience with collaboration in larger development teams
• ability to communicate and collaborate across multiple technical teams
• senior approach to the design and implementation of technical solutions
• active knowledge of the English language, spoken and written
