Project Manager SAP Authorization Management / Role Redesign

Project overview

Our client is looking for short-term support from an experienced Project Manager SAP Authorization Management / Role Redesign (m/f/d) for a demanding SAP authorization project. The focus is on the sustainable further development of an existing SAP authorization landscape with a focus on SAP GUI and Fiori, critical authorizations, SoD risks, as well as robust governance, testing, and release processes.

We are looking for an experienced project manager who can independently manage complex SAP authorization projects, systematically address existing audit and review findings, and lead the implementation of a risk-oriented role redesign both technically and methodologically. The focus is on project management, role architecture, SAP authorization management, audit/compliance topics, and the coordination of internal and external stakeholders.

A central task is to further develop existing authorization models and align roles according to the need-to-know and least-privilege principles. Technical and organizational dependencies must be considered, implementation waves prepared, and decisions for management and business departments reliably prepared.

Responsibilities

• Technical and methodological project management for a SAP authorization redesign
• Structuring, planning, and managing project phases and work packages
• Managing an external implementation partner
• Consolidation of project status and open audit and review findings
• Planning and managing pilot phases and further implementation waves
• Coordination of SAP experts, business departments, system administrators, and technical teams
• Ensuring the binding cooperation of relevant business departments and the designation of role and test managers
• Management of risks, resources, budget, dependencies, and deadlines
• Preparation of management decisions on scope, methodology, and timeline
• Establishment of transparent project controlling and management reporting
• Ensuring quality gates, functional acceptances, and audit-proof project documentation
• Preparation of the operational handover and formal project closure
• Further development of existing role architectures for SAP R/3 and SAP S/4HANA
• Evaluation and optimization of SAP GUI and Fiori authorizations
• Consideration of technical users, RFC connections, custom developments, and Z-transactions
• Support with SoD assessments, role cleanup, and documented risk acceptance

• Several years of experience in independently managing complex SAP projects
• Very good knowledge of SAP authorization management for SAP R/3 and SAP S/4HANA
• Sound experience with role architectures and role redesign
• Very good knowledge of SAP GUI and Fiori authorizations
• Experience with technical users, RFC connections, and SU24
• Very good understanding of need-to-know, least privilege, and segregation of duties
• Experience in processing audit, compliance, and review findings
• Practical experience in managing measures, compensating controls, and documented risk acceptance
• Experience in managing external implementation partners and internal business departments
• Very good project management including resource, budget, risk, escalation, and stakeholder management
• Practical knowledge of the Xiting Authorization Management Suite (XAMS), especially in usage analyses, role cleanup, role design, SoD assessments, and simulations
• Strong communication, moderation, and assertiveness skills
• Fluent German and good English skills
• Start: short notice / by arrangement
• Duration: initially until 06/30/2027
• Option for extension
• Utilization: approx. 2-3 days per week
