Senior DevOps Engineer – Argo CD / GitOps Expert

Context

As part of the evolution and industrialization of its continuous deployment (CD) practices, we are looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer with proven expertise in Argo CD administration and production-oriented GitOps architectures.

The consultant will act as a technical lead to support teams in the administration, optimization, and reliability of their Argo CD platform.

The client specifically wishes to benefit from the experience of an expert who has already participated in the design and implementation of Argo CD architectures in production, capable of advising teams on best practices, challenging technical choices, and proposing areas for improvement.

The position requires genuine technical and operational expertise in Argo CD, beyond its simple use for application deployments.

• Analyze the existing Argo CD architecture and identify areas for improvement
• Provide a critical perspective on technical choices and current practices
• Advise teams on GitOps architecture best practices adapted to production constraints
• Propose evolutions to improve the platform's availability, resilience, security, and performance
• Support discussions around centralized or distributed architectures and multi-cluster deployments
• Define recommendations for environment separation and application isolation
• Participate in architectural decisions and the definition of technical standards
• Administer and maintain Argo CD platforms
• Ensure the configuration, optimization, and evolution of internal components: Application Controller, Repo Server, API Server, ApplicationSet Controller, and Redis
• Manage AppProjects, Applications, and ApplicationSets
• Optimize synchronization, reconciliation, and drift management mechanisms
• Master Sync Waves, Resource Hooks, Sync Options, Self-Healing, and Pruning
• Analyze and resolve complex synchronization, performance, and deployment incidents
• Support maintenance and version upgrade operations
• Define operational and administration best practices
• Advise on deployment and promotion strategies between environments
• Define best practices for version management and rollback
• Optimize the use of Helm and Kustomize in GitOps deployments
• Advise on ApplicationSet and App of Apps patterns
• Support the implementation of pre-production deployment controls and validations
• Identify and anticipate risks related to application deployments
• Improve the traceability, reproducibility, and reliability of production deployments
• Audit and improve RBAC configurations and access rights
• Advise on SSO/OIDC authentication mechanisms
• Support the security of connections to Kubernetes clusters and Git repositories
• Define best practices for secret management, particularly with Vault or External Secrets Operator
• Advise on AppProject governance and inter-team isolation
• Strengthen the security and traceability of deployment operations
• Act as a technical lead for DevOps and application teams
• Share feedback and best practices from previous Argo CD architectures
• Participate in architecture reviews and technical workshops
• Produce reasoned recommendations and propose concrete solutions
• Support the standardization of GitOps practices
• Contribute to technical documentation and skills transfer
