Job description
Seeking a Senior Distributed Version Control Architect to design, document, and evolve a distributed version control system for structured data, focusing on patch theory, DAGs, and structured data versioning.
Project overview
For our customer project, I am currently looking for a Senior Distributed Version Control Architect (m/f/d) Patch Theory, DAGs, Structured Data (30684).
Is this a suitable project for you? I look forward to your feedback!
Responsibilities
- Design, documentation, and further development of a distributed version control system (VCS) for structured data (data and version models, DAGs).
- Definition of representations for changes/patches, dependencies, and causal histories.
- Specification and evaluation of merge, conflict, and synchronization semantics; modeling of persistent, unresolved conflicts.
- Development of procedures for selective merging, rollback/inverse operations, and traceability (provenance).
- Prototypical testing and evaluation of versioning algorithms.
- Conducting architecture and design reviews.
Requirements
- Very good knowledge of concepts and architectures of distributed version control systems.
- Sound knowledge of patch/change-based versioning models, DAGs/graph data structures, and practical versioning of structured data.
- Solid understanding of the differences between snapshot-based and patch-based approaches, as well as consistency models of distributed systems (trade-offs, replication, conflict resolution).
- Proven experience in merge semantics, conflict modeling, rollback/inverse operations, and provenance.
Nice to have
- Practical experience or OSS contributions to patch-based systems / Patch Theory (e.g., Pijul, Darcs, Jujutsu, Mercurial/Sapling) or demonstrable research/prototypes in this area.
- Knowledge of Git internals, CRDTs, Operational Transformation, or Event Sourcing.
- Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, Git & Azure DevOps.
